Atom UEF Archive

Post by Pernod » Thu Jan 14, 2016 10:36 am

Is the Atom archive available in UEF format anywhere?

The ATM archive is great for MMC users, and Atomulator that emulates MMC, but so so great for MESS.

Hello Nigel,

no, there are a few UEF tape files available but there is no UEF archive.

But IIRC Dave (hoglet) has a script to save the archive as DSK images for the FPGA Atom.

PS Found it, here's an image which contains 1023 x 100 kB Diskimages for the Software Archive in SDDOS2 format.

If you look at the Atom games on the Retrosoftware site, in the download section, you'll find disk-, tape- and ATM images of the game.

Eg. Chuckie Egg, Galaforce ....

Hi NIgel,

I can package the whole archive (plus menu system) in one of three formats:
- ATM format
- SDDOS2 format (which is what Kees has just described)
- SDDOS3 format (which is a separate file per disk/title)

If you want the menu system to work, then you will need either SDDOS2, SDDOS3 or ATOMMC, all of which require the emulator to have some support for emulating an SD Card. For SDDOS the menu program uses *DIN to mount the apppriate disk image. For ATOMMC it just changes to the appropriate directory.

If all you have in MESS is the ability to manually mount individual disk images, then I don't see how the menu program would work for you.

Have you considered switching MESS over to using Atomulator as the emulator?

Dave

I can pop up a link to all the MIA tapes .hqUEF files I made a while back, and also some .CSW working files if that helps you test? Will put up linky when on Laptop later and find them....
and no, I ain't uploading 800+mb of .WAV files

There are several formats available:

Tape:
---------
- WAV, recorded 300/1200 baud audio tape saved according to Kansas City standard
- CSW, stored sample data of a WAV file (Atomulator, not 100% ok)
- UEF, is a container format for the compressed storage of audio tape (Atomulator, not 100% ok)
- TAP, file with sequential stored binary code with header (Emulator Wouter Ras)

Disc:
---------
- DSK, diskimage of a 100 kB Atom floppy (Atomulator + emulator Wouter Ras)

MMC:
---------
- ATM, binary code with header (Atomulator)

I'll look at implementing MMC in MESS at a later date, so may come back to you.

Thanks Col, that's exactly what I was hoping for. I notice SpacePanic is csw only, problem with uef?

Does anyone else have any more to add the collection, maybe Arcadian?

Thanks for doing this. I am going to add Acorn Atom chunk support to playUEF when I get a moment so will be trying them out on my Atom :D
