That top image looks like the same serial number sticker I've got in my original Beeb from '83. Mine's an Astec AFAIK...

One other bit of information - my electron which has the product code 02-ALA01 has a label inside which says "Made in Hong Kong". The 02-ALA01 electrons don't have this.

I believe 02 is Wong Electronics. 01 is probably Astec.

@jms2: my Beeb is 3935 down the line from yours! The serial number sticker has fallen off and been reattached, no doubt the same has happened with your sticker.

I'd be interested to see the date stamp on the motherboard if you ever lift the WE ROM board.

I've got:
03ANB01 3054325. Date stamp: 11 MAY 1984, B.548 DI
I have previously observed:
03ANB01 3066404. Date stamp: 2 JUL 1984, B.574 nS

Interestingly the dates are 52 days apart, but the B. numbers differ by 26. If a "B." occurs every two days then B.1 would have happened on 13 May 1981... B.100 was due on 27 November that year, still very early. (courtesy of timeanddate.com)

However if the B number is incremented once per day then B.100 would fall on 18 February 1983, about a month after the date on the Issue 7 diagram, although we are now clearly grasping at straws!

Mine's a BBC Model A.

Identical orange stickers on the motherboard and the underside say ICL SERIAL No 005416.

Printed on the motherboard:
Copyright 1981 203,000 Issue 3
Acorn Computers Ltd

Scribbled on top of that is GS 23.9.83, in permanent marker.

I can't see much else, 05042 on the keyboard, 6156 on the WE DDFS ROM (in biro)

Okay, interest on this seems to have died down, so I'll post some 'final' numbers. Unless anyone else has anything else to contribute?

Estimates I'm reasonable certain of :

Electron - 315,068
Electron Plus 1 - 19,899
Electron Plus 3 - 10,012
Master 128 - 283,609
Master Compact - 39,238
Archimedes 310 - 21,056
Archimedes A410/1 - 10,466

Estimates I'm not so certain of (not enough samples, or not varied enough) :

BBC A/B - 551,427
of which :
- ANx01 - 459,119
- ANB02 - 1,071 (only one sample)
- ANB03 - 80,456
- ANB04 - 10,781 (only one sample)

At the least I suspect there are a lot more ANB02's (Econet but no disc, should have been pretty common for school machines?).

A3000 - 146,068 (only one sample of 25-AKB01, rest are 01-AKB01. No special access or Learning Curve machines seen)
A3020 - 104,152 (models not seen)
RiscPC 600 - 26,589 (lots of models not seen)
RiscPC 700 - 3,084 (lots of models not seen)
StrongARM RiscPC - 2,933 (lots of models not seen)

Estimates that are complete guesses (only one or two sample, or one sample of several models) or where parts of serial numbers are uncertain :

German BBC B - 1,885 (only 1 sample)
US BBC B - 20,396 (only 2 samples)
BBC B+ 64K - 17,711 or 37,711
BBC B+ 128K - 6,817 (only 2 samples)
Master ET - 4,403 (only 2 samples)
Archimedes 305 - 4,105 (only 1 sample)
Archimedes 420/1 - 189 (only 1 sample)
Archimedes 440 - 713 (only 1 sample)
Archimedes 440/1 - 4,308 (only 2 samples, from different production lines)
Archimedes A540 - 1,584 (only 2 samples)
A3010 - 59,813 or 19,813 (lots of models not seen, only 1 each)
A4 - 2,269 (only 1 sample)
A5000 - 12,005 (only 1 sample of 3 different models)
A7000 - 14,030 (lots of models not seen, only 1 each)
A7000+ - 4,144 (lots of models not seen, only 1 each)
R260 - 3,453 (only 2 samples)

A lot of the Masters in my school were Master ETs - i.e. didn't have much fitted and were just basic Econet Terminals. No idea how they'd fit in with your number crunching. I haven't seen one since I left ...

Left the ET out by mistake, now fixed. Only got 2 serial numbers though, both of which are suprisingly low.

I'm beginning to think that this question is one which could be potentially be on-going. We could make this a sticky topic in the Community Projects forum and I could add a link to it in the welcome email that I send out to any new people who register asking them to post the serial numbers of any kit they have.

I'll have a go at contributing to this endeavor too.

I recently picked up a B+ 128k system, after 20 minutes of playing about the PSU did the crackling smokey thing, so I've picked up a couple of X2s to sort this out. When I'm done, expect a few questions to appear elsewhere in the forums, thanks ;o) Pulled out our original Beeb and the spares machine for the same treatment, so while conviently at hand out of the packaging here are some numbers.

The B+ : 01-ANB53-5505469

The beebs :
(iss. 3) 010169 (sticker is an orange one with the legend "ICL Serial No", also has other short-comings, but this is the spares box)
(iss. 4) 02-B01-203338

Hope this will be of use to you.

Ok - new on here so will try not to show myself up too badly

Just bought the following

MASTER - 01-AMB15-0026692
6502 Second processor - 03 ANC01 -1007293
MODEL B - 01-ANBO3-5053160 (Says issue 7 on MB but questionable contents)

MASTER looks ok from outside - yet to take a peek inside. MODEL B can't seem to compare with examples I've seen while researching - but thats another thread for tomorrow.

Hope these help

Hello! I'm a new member as of today! :)

I'm looking to refurb my Dad's old BBC to get it going again. It's an (early?) Issue 3 BBC B, with an ICL serial no:

ICL 007957

PSU (unfortunately dead) is dated 82-08.
It still has a BASIC A ROM (with the 1981 Copyright). I think it had an OS ROM upgrade at some point.
