Today I received an internal DataCentre kit, courtesy of Mark/Retroclinic. I haven't got it out of the box yet, so no photos.

Hi all

Yesterday I received a "New Acorn BBC Micro Flash ROM RAM expansion board + battery backup" kit from Steve.

See this thread: http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5687
Looks like an excellent product. Alas I currently do not have the time to have a proper play with it.

An AM27512... not gonna take a picture of it, 'cos one EPROM looks much like another :-)

But (once I worked out I should program it like a 27C512... timing, it matters!) it now has BASIC, TurboMMC, VIEW and my manager ROM on it... just waiting for Steve's "Acorn BBC Micro Flash ROM RAM expansion board" to make it's way across the puddle!

Also, I know it's not "today", more "a couple of weeks ago" but...

I received this

Image

A definite sun tan and missing any form of backplane but... it already had a set of IFEL upgrades in it including 4MB RAM, RISC OS 3 carrier board and RO 3.10 and an IFEL ARM3 processor of the type suitable for an A3000 :D

After a clean, strip down, service and re-assembly, it's running like a champ.

That suntan in full...

Yes the CUB monitor definitely adds to the experience. Make sure it's packed well if it's coming all the way to Brazil :!:

I'll write a short review of it, once I've put it all together. I note it requires soldering, and I have the soldering skills of a demented monkey on crack... A little disappointing considering previous kits from Steve didn't need it.

Nothing earth shaking, but a good bargain - rare for me.
A brand spanking new, clearly unopened copy of the Dabs Arc First Steps book - all for £2.22 posted. I actually got it on Friday and it has proved to be an easy read, informative and a useful basic guide to the Arc.
And for any Lancs. folk reading, it was originally sold by Micro-Tech in Walshaw Road in Bury. Stir any memories?

Nice one Hugh, it's about time you nailed an eBay bargain

Ah, that explains why it's unopened then - the government only very recently launched a scheme here to encourage us to learn to read.

Sorry, didn't realise, Martin, but I must say you hide it well. If you could read I would have pointed out that I bought it through Abebooks not ebay.
No such thing as a bargain on ebay these days.
