it is indeed. He was uncharacteristicly you excited about this lecture. But, I wish I was there.

Just collected this very nice looking Electron, still in its original box/polystyrene packaging, and even with the edge connector plastic protector still in place. It came complete with power supply, aerial cable, pristine manuals, and a pile of software. PLUS the original sales receipt from Rumbelows (remember them?!) in 1985...!

Very pleased (got it for an absolute steal), just need to clean it up a bit and then do whatever recaps, etc. will make sure it has a long and happy life. Is there a guide somewhere for how to recap/futureproof an Electron??

No, because there are no capacitors that need renewing normally. The internal Elk PSU is normally very reliable. The external PSU (which is just a transformer in a plastic case) suffers from the low voltage cable suffering breaks in the copper wires either where it comes out of the PSU case, or where it enters the barrel type 2.1/5.5mm mini power connector. If this is the case, either renew the whole cable, or cut out the bad bits and reterminate.

The worst offender inside the Elk for causing problems is the ULA/socket contacts sometimes need cleaning. But this only applies to some issue boards. If your Elk works, then don’t worry about it.

Ahh, Rumbelows, back when shops gave you a handwritten receipt. Brings back memories of 1983....

Thanks Mark, have fired it up and everything works beautifully. I don't think this Elk had a lot of use, and has apparently been packed away in the seller's loft for the last quarter century!

Well I got an Acorn MEU

Above for illustration. It will go with my A5000, eventually but is "going under the back bed" just now #-o

My first ever Beeb. I guess it’s a B+? In the photo right above the keyboard it says 64k.

Case needs a good clean.

It has been recapped. One less job to do.

It is indeed a B+ - I'd recommend a multios in there so you can run it in beeb-mode too :)

I noticed that page is at &1900 and not E00 which I was expecting.

Forgot to add these pictures.

Good recommendation. Thanks. A trip to RetroClinic needed.

Any other recommendations?

A BBC B+ is a Beeb not a Master...

Agreed, though 2.0j is an early version that doesn't seem to be archived, so would appreciate a dump

A B+ with DFS only will have PAGE at &1900.

The DFS you want is version 2.26 or above.

Also check out how to add three 32K SWR banks here:- http://www.firths.org/bbc/my_b+128k.html

An A5000 from eBay with quite a bit of battery damage — pictured is the motherboard before the first vinegar wash. Looks like someone already removed the battery and cleaned it up a bit, but a lot of green chunks came off with the vinegar treatment, and there’s still more to go...

Some breakout boards for 6-pin and 9-pin mini DIN sockets, so I can use a pre-made mini DIN cable to connect a SmallyMouse2 to my A3000 rather than having to wire it up myself, and so I can hook up an Archimedes keyboard.

Got this Master in today from Ebay. Really good condition, just a couple of slightly reluctant keys that should be easy to sort out. Well chuffed :)

That's something you don't see every day! I remember the magazine ads for the Enterprise way back, but it never seemed to go anywhere.

I have an Enterprise but haven't had time to play with it yet. Are you planning on doing anything interesting with it?

Didn't Johnny Matthis and Denise Williams have a song about this?

Too much (money)
Too little (specs)
Too late (1985? Ugh)

They’re certainly not cheap or widely available but luckily I didn’t pay through the nose for this one. I guess you could say it was a similar price to getting hold of, say, an Atom.

A £12 DVD player with fancy outputs today, in new condition in some decent audiophile quality! I think it was priced so cheap in the junk shop because either staff or customers thought it looked too niche.

The same shop dished up a nice cheap odd jobs laptop, to replace an old desktop PC which kept melting its PSU power cable. I'll upgrade that. So not a bad week then.

An interesting piece of kit. Does it read/write to both SD card and USB memory?

As there are no line-ins on the unit, it must only record karaoke progress to the flash card or something. An online manual must tell me, plus I can find no remote control for the full functions.
