Re: Today I received.....
1st 2 in a series of 'Christmas presents to myself as I deserve it after all
' :
1st parcel :
- a boxed Atari Jaguar, power supply, 1 controller and games Cybermorph and Kasumi Ninja (both hideous and a shame when you read the specs of the Jag).
It is a 'smoking' Jaguar when power supply is plugged in, so yes there'll be some work to do (most of the time it's a failing power supply and what to change on the Jag's motherboard is documented on Youtube).
- an Atari 65xe, its power supply and an Atari xc12 tape desk. Sold as 'untested as no video cable available but powers on'.
- Much more important an A3000 'sold as is, see pictures, I've got no mouse'.
Hurrah ! Another very cheap and working A3000 featuring (ta da !)
° no battery leakage
° 2 Mbytes of RAM
° a Powertech minipodule and a working 120 Mbytes hard drive with no defects (and 'silent').
° RISC OS 3.11 with a label on the last ROM, something I had never seen in my other Archies
I cleaned it since it was full of nests from some insects.
See pictures ('beurk' as we say in French when it's disgusting).
Also some software from a company with an intelligent name
(!Thinklink by Xavier Educational Software Ltd.)
2nd parcel :
- a cheap and untested video projector (who knows : it might work ?)
- an Atari Jaguar (unit only) sold as untested (I expect it to be damaged due to improper non Atari power supply used that must have fried a series of chips, but again it's no big deal to repair).
EDIT : good news, it's fully working and I could despair playing 2 minutes Cybermorph, not worth 1/20th of our StarFighter. I almost forgot at the bottom of the parcel Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PS3 (and no I don't play games, I don't think I've used my PS3 more than a dozen hours since I own one) :

I didn't bother with a DK2 because it's not Omni compatible, with any luck the CV will be out next year and we can all take a year off work!

Oooh, CNC. Could probably happily drive it from a Beeb, although, something like LinuxCNC is probably a better idea.piemmm wrote:This cnc thingy (some assembly required)

I wonder if kids of today will have similar feelings towards iPads and Mac Book Airs etc when they get to our ages?

Doubt it. The technology will be obsolete and totally unusable; they can't do anything with them now so they definitely will not be able to do anything in the future.martinw wrote:

Re: Today I received.....
Maybe these might make kids look back with fondness in the future?
I've ordered some stuff from ROOL that I'm looking forward to receiving. I like the idea of spending money with them as it feels like it's for a good cause

If I ever get the time I'd like to hook these two bits of kit together
