.WAV and .CSW files

Post by CMcDougall »

I've been over to the 'dark side' with 4colours on the crap spectrum
The emulators on it loads CSW files quick as f@ck, same with .WAV 22k 8bit PCM files.
The beeb emulators only load .UEF & .hq.UEF files quick at the moment.

Just wondered if someone could let the beeb emulators also load .WAV files, as am having no joy at all with .hq.UEFs and .CSW files.

I say this because the 2spectrum tapes I 'ripped' onto PC, only one side of each tape worked. One game would not change to .CSW, but it worked perfect as a .WAV

cheers Col.

I have been playing about with BeebEm414 and B-Em2.1a.

Included below is a rip of my original tape as a .CSW file for beeb B.
It should load Drifter, Drifter1, then say Searching, then Loading 012-F x5 and then ask for keys to play game.

Only B-Em works with this .CSW file, BeebEm only shows Searching, tape control still goes through file, but does not work at end, or show 'Loading 012-F' x5 during. So a bug there somewhere.

I will get more of my original tapes from under my old bed this weekend, to try more games like Revs, Space Hi-Way etc

PS Pete, I tried the .WAV files with MESS, but got nowhere, so useless.

PPS if you can't be bothered with old DOS (sooo 1990), then use CSW viewer39, not 33 on AcornPreservationProject site, as its version33 and does not work (says error2), so new one is ere ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sincl ... Viewer.zip

I attempted a UEF conversion of Revs, although I don't know if it was successful, as in BeebEm the car won't budge (anti-piracy measure?) and B-Em quits altogether before it can load the protected file. Adding it to the copy protected software list though.

I never can get any luck with hq.UEF files, given up totally

the .CSW of Revs does work (in my other thread), as you say Greg on b-Em2.1a it turns completly off after the Revs1 file :o but on BeebEm414 it does load the steam of Revs2 file and the car/game does work 100% 8)

Greg, did you use my .csw file in the other thread? if so, how did you get it to .hq.uef?? the 'switches' i usually use are "makeuef -i file.csw -w 0 180 -s 1 1299"
but all i got was a 'bleep' and something about *err :?
it did the usual files (apart from starting at block1 instead of0) and failed at the streamed 'Revs2' file.
The Switches you used would be of much interest and could you upload the .hq.uef file too

I didn't use MakeUEF :)

Code: Select all

csw -d revs.csw
sox revs.wav -t s16 -c 1 -r 44100 - | bitclean -o - | bitparse | writeuef '5545462046696C6521000A00' | gzip -cn > revs.uef
(using SoX and Kleen.)

Not going to post the output as it's an Acornsoft number. Sorry!
