Felix In The Factory key choice

Post by Michael Brown » Thu Sep 14, 2017 2:44 pm

Hi all,

Sometime back I had an idea of adding the option of choosing between the original Felix In The Factory keys from the original tape and the more standard ones that were used on the Micro Power compilation re-issue.

I have now taken another look and made some progress.
The original tape version is loaded.
Then you are asked if you want to change the keys.
If no then the original game gets called.
If yes then new keys are poked over the original key locations and the alternative splash screen with these new keys is displayed.

This version should give you the choice of playing it on a real BBC or emulator with either set of keys.

If anyone thinks this is a good idea then I may do the same with Fruit Monsters!

regards,
Mick.

Note: This version uses the original tape key layout and not the ones from my Disc001 which had been altered in recent years for QWERTY keyboards.

Great work Mick, the keys were a pain on a real Beeb too!

Glad you like it.

Here's Fruit Monsters - done the same!

Hope you enjoy them!

I was also originally going to add a detect BeebEm routine so that you were only asked if you want to change the keys under BeebEm leaving the original keys if you played it under B-em or on a BBC, but because Micro Power had changed the keys themselves when re-issuing the game later in their compilation, I thought I'd offer the choice of both sets of keys to all users of all media.

Now here's the question - do I add these to my discs 001 and 002?

I would say yes :D Make these the default versions, and I will add them to bbcmicro.co.uk too.

Hi Lee,

Working on Disc001 and Disc002 as we speak.

This will, of course, mean re-posting these discs once more.
For the better I hope!

Mick.

the key selection on the original tapes are utter #-o
but noticed that the Disc version of FITFactory does have them 'correct' with ZX*/ Return :D
