replacing all the CALL&D9CD should be fast with find and replace in a hex editor.
Yes, the key thing is that "!-4" is a shorter string than "&D9CD", so it's possible to use a hex-editor to overwrite the latter with
"!-4 " without altering the length of the line of BASIC it appears on:

The above screenshot shows an example of what I mean: it shows two separate .SSDs loaded into a hex-editor. 1.ssd stores the following simple program:

Code: Select all

   10 PRINT "HELLO"
20 IF TRUE CALL &D9CD ELSE PRINT "BOO"
   30 END
2.ssd stores a version of the program where "&D9CD" has been overwritten with "!-4 ".
(Note the two spaces at the end of "!-4 ".)

Hi All,

Thanks for the list.
The plan is to remove all the &D9CDs from discs101 to 129, then the ones from the ALT discs, then discs 091 to 100 (Adventure discs), and finally start through from discs 001 to 090 also adding missing instructions to these as I go.

Discs 121 to 130 have now been re-posted in Sections 14, 15, 16 and 17.

Before that, is the slow process of adding the missing instructions from the mags to the games on discs 131 upwards and I will re-post Discs 131 to 140 as soon as they are complete.

Hi All,

Slight change of plan.
I have now re-posted the games on the ALT Discs as these were easy to sort.
Also re-posted Discs 091, 095 and 100 in Section 6 as these too were easy to sort.

Discs131 to 140 have been sorted and will be posted here once checked.

Hi,

Just re-posted Disc 130 in Section 17.
The reason for this is because I have taken Pucman off the disc and put in on a new Alternative Disc no.14 as this game is the same as Maze-Man on Disc 083.
I have replaced it with an Othello game from INPUT Magazine.

Thanks to The Complete BBC Micro Archive where you can now see multiple games side by side and spot any comparisons.

Hi,

Just re-posted Disc 115 in Section 12.
The reason for this is because Tricky has provided a better copy of Space Invaders with the correct sound.

Hi,

The final few discs of the new bunch are done.

Discs 151 to 157 have now been re-posted in Sections 21, 22 and 23.
Some of the games on these discs now feature instructions taken from the books and magazines.

I will now be going back to Disc001 through to 090 and adding swapping CALL&D9CDs for CALL!-4 and also adding any missing instructions.

I don't want to clutter this thread up, but I felt I needed to add my thanks for all the hard work you're putting into this collection - it's absolutely fantastic, and I wanted to make sure you knew how much it was appreciated.

Hi.

Thanks for your work on this collection, it really is quite an incredible work.

I was playing backgammon on disk 147 and it seems to have a couple of problems.

Line 600 seems to have a typo in the S(2)=S(2)+1 statement where the 1 is actually a lower case L (l) and results in the program stopping at that point.

And when the player loses the program stops at line 1480 due to another typo. I believe that FORN-1TO24 should be FORN=1TO24

Hope that helps someone.

EDIT: This is a good time to remind everyone to let us know if you spot ANY errors 8)
They will be fixed quickly (if possible... )

Hi All,
I have now been through the remaining games from the list that required the CALL&D9CD commands changing to CALL!-4.
The games affected were Ghouls, Football Manager, Side Fighter, Panzer Assault, Alien Intruders, Snapman, Bedbugs, The Abyss and Hangman.

I have therefore re-posted Disc004 in Section 1.
Disc009, Disc017, Disc019, Disc021, Disc025 and Disc039 in Section 3.
Disc050 in Section 4.
and Disc076 in Section 5.

At the same time, I have now added the fix for the "Watch Tower" bug to my version of Jet Set Willy on Disc025.

I will re-post more discs as and when instructions/loading screen become available.

Mick.
