Chart Challenge - Outlook Enterprises

Post by Pernod » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:43 am

Here's Pop Quiz Master, with four data discs! I've no idea who released this but am fairly certain my copies were from originals BITD.

To save swapping discs you can keep the program disc in drive 0 and put any data disc in drive 1.

I've save that up for when my real BBC is disk-ready again.

More great stuff.

I've now confirmed this is actually Chart Challenge by Outlook Enterprises, released in 1986. There's a review in Beebug Vol.5 No.7 (Dec.86).

Cheers Nigel!
I have updated the website: http://bbcmicro.co.uk/index.php?rt_R=&r ... =on&sort=a

Is this definitely "Chart Challenge", and not "Chart Challenge 87"? which is on the MIA list?

Thanks again,

**EDIT - I am convinced the full title is "Chart Challenge '87".
The follow up: "Chart Challenge '88" is on Stairway to Hell
I will sort it out (It seems to only work in Master mode) and get that uploaded too...

Lee.

Yeah, definitely the original. The screenshot in the Beebug review match this, and questions are upto 1985. I'd expect the later 87 edition to have questions on 1986.

Slight confusion!!

The original *IS* Chart Challenge '87 - released at the end of 1986.
The follow up is "Chart Challenge '88", which was released (presumably) in 1987. I will try and find magazine reviews for it.

Review of Chart Challenge '87: http://www.everygamegoing.com/egg/landi ... ge-87-000/

They definitely seem to be reviewing the same game as in Beebug.
The review is from Micro User January 1987.

Review of Chart Challenge '88 from the May 1988 issue of Micro user: http://www.everygamegoing.com/egg/landi ... ge-88-000/

I've seen adverts for both Chart Challenge and Chart Challenge 87. Will have to find them again and see if descriptions match.

At least you can cross one off your MIA list, maybe two \:D/

If you read the review in the actual magazine it doesn't mention '87. I've scoured both Acorn User and Micro User for adverts:
Micro User Oct.86 and Acorn User Feb.87
MicroUser_Oct86.JPG
Acorn User Jan.87
MicroUser_Jan87.JPG
Acorn User Dec.87
AcornUser_Dec87.JPG
My conclusion is that '87 does not exist.

I think this is a case that it may have been retrospectively referred to as 87 to distinguish it from the new "'88" version.
