I have three Elks presently, though only one of them is complete, the other two are for spares and a bit sparse!

the complete one (currently) is 07-ALA01-0068695

the two for spares are:

06-ALA01-0006180 (my original from BITD)

and the other is **-***01-0082595 (label is torn)

Stuart :)

What does the first two-digit number mean then?

apparently the first two char's are the manufacturer. If true the 07 must = a manufacturer in the UK
and ALA01 = Electron

damm, think Stuart had beat me :)
a spare I got, 06-ALA01-0006840 ((Made in Malaysia) eBay £11.20 inc PP)
and the one my cousin had that I fixed (first Acorn machine I touched, and played Monsters/Gauntlet/Boffin2), 06-ALA01-0008112 ((xmas 1983) Made in Malaysia)
both Issue2, and a crap Iss4 from a school mate that I also fixed, 07-ALA01-0 054124, ULA every time  , but came with elk tape/plus1/adaptors/hopper cart, not bad for 40 fags 8)

need to search this thread to see if any more lower from members :

Based on my Elks, 07- is another UK manufacturer, and 02- is Hong Kong.

I don't know if the prefixes are common between BBCs and Electrons. It would be sensible if they were, but Acorn's serial numbering system doesn't make a lot of sense!
