I designed a UPURS Adapter PCB - yes, really

Post by EdVoncken »

Hi all,

As an exercise, I designed a PCB for MartinB's UPURS adapter cable. Yes, it is complete overkill, but it was great fun to do :D
It allowed me to learn about KiCad. The PCBs came in today (from JLCPCB), and I'm really happy with the results.

I uploaded the design files to Github (https://github.com/evoncken/acorn-upurs-pcb.git) so you can all marvel at the 2 resistors and 2 diodes on that PCB
BBC-B (my first computer, 1983?), Electron (1985, virtually unused)
BBC-B and BBC Master 128 with DataCentres from Mark@RetroClinic (2018, 2019)
Refurb/upgrade projects: BBC-B (2x), BBC Master 128, Electron with Plus1 and Plus3

Nice adapter =D>
Such projects are really great to learn KiCad. Simple, cheap and useful.

Ooh, missed this! Very nice job Ed =D> :)

(I cut my pcb-design teeth on Beeb stuff after joining the forum too as it happens - on mine & Sarah W’s BeebSID project.)

Nice. I'm a big fan of adapter boards - so much neater than hand wiring stuff.

Nice work Ed,

Great skill to have =D>

I really enjoy little projects with KiCad and find it very theraputic. I've only done through-hole boards to-date so might venture into SMT next, about 30 years behind the curve so far but who's counting? :D
