2nd Batch of the New AP6 and probably the last batch!

Post by daveejhitchins » Sun May 03, 2020 3:58 pm

Getting ready to order a few prototypes of the 2nd batch of the New AP6 PCB 1V3.

What's changed from 1V2?

1) Fixed an error on 1V2 relating to J6 - You'll now be able to disable ROMs 5 & 6
2) I've fitted a link so that when changed over you'll be able to program, in situ, IC1 - the AP6 ROM
3) I've managed to squeeze-in a battery (as fitted to the ABR/ATI) and a MCP79410 RTC!

4) Tentative: A way of accessing the upper half of the 2nd bank of the AP6 ROM (a 28C256). Currently taken up by TreeCopy. However, if I can find a way to do this then there'll be room for the RTC code. E.g. The first 16K will be the AP6 ROM - the first 8K of the second 16K will be identical to the bottom 8K of the first 16K with the second 8k of the second 16K being the RTC code. If not possible then it will require a second ROM :(

As in the subject - this will probably be the last batch of AP6s that I'll be making. I'll put all the design files in GitHub. So if anyone wants to make themselves one, in the future, it should be easy enough.

Possibly interested in one if I can source a reasonable priced Plus 1 for my second Electron. All the Plus 1’s on eBay are way over priced.

Use the existing *SRPAGE method? Write a sequence of bytes to &AFFF.

That's just for the AP5, Jonathan - There isn't the addressing available in the AP6. But (see the latest eMail) I have a method that should work within the Prestel Hardware address range that is available.
