MMFS SD Card on the BBC B Printer Port?

My parts finally arrived on the slow boat from China this week and I have built my MicroSD Card version of Dave's design.

This sits directly on the Printer Port under the Beeb and is completely unobtrusive in use. The natural spring in the cable holds the adapter up against the base of the Beeb and the Connector clips hold it securely in place. The MicroSD Card is accessable without removing the adapter.

I used a pre-made 26Pin IDC cable which has the Polarised locating "Bump" and yields two adapters at a price of about a Pound from a Chinese seller on eBay. The SD Card adapter is a standard (3 for £1.56) eBay Arduino card with the Pin Header removed. I used a small piece of Double sided sticky foam tape to attach the cable to the back of the card and provide strain relief.

Very nice. It is amazing what can be done these days. Think how good that would have been in 1984!!

Here is my effort, just the same as Wheel-nut, but I encapsulated the pcb with shrink sleeving.

Now on to my master 128......

Neat job DaveLecky. I have successfully installed these on three Issue 7 Beebs and two Issue 3 Beebs and use them with P/ZMMFS 1.44.

I don't have a Master but I am sure that the Printer Port modification will be the same though you will be using P/MAMMFS 1.44 which, if I understand the Master correctly, runs in reserved memory anyway.

Is there a schematic of this anywhere - I've searched in the Github and on the forum but I'm clearly missing something. I can derive it from your two photos easily enough, just wondered if there was a proper document. Thanks.

Well, I made the interface, added the mod wiring to the beeb, and then burned entirely the wrong binary to my last remaining blank eprom.

Now waiting for my UV steriliser to arrive so I can blank some eproms and try again.

With the right P/ZMMFS ROM installed and some SWRAM from BooBip - all works brilliantly!

Happily using mine now, and I've built a couple for other people at cost. Really neat implementation, so thanks to everyone who worked it out and to Hoglet for the ROM.

I had a question from someone I sent one to: to get this working on the Master, what wiring mod is needed?

If I had a master I could trace it out, but I don't.

I don't think there's any wiring mod, is there? The Master printer port is the same as the Beeb one?

I am duplicating the pictures of the multi-headed MMFS adapter that KenLowe designed for me. The assembled board can connect to EITHER the User Port or the Printer Port (with Hoglet's modification).

KenLowe has also tested the adapter in his Master but note that there is insufficient space in the Master to have both Headers fitted so it needs to be customised to one or other application for the Master.

Have you managed to look at getting this design working on a Master?

My version of Robin's design has flying leads for the motherboard 'modification' and I'd love to know if they would work on a Master as they do on the B. Happy to send you a board to play with if you're willing to check.

I’ve not tried any of these on a master, I didn’t get round to it at the time as something else came up.

As you don’t have a master, I’m happy to test it out under your instructions as required...but I’m no expert.
