Hi Dave,

OK So .. Ive removed the ABR and pulled the jumper on J3 gave it a good 30 seconds and refitted J3. Plugged it into the rear slot 0 to 1 and turned the Elk back on.

So MMFS doesn't appear on the 'boot' screen anymore and that makes sense as I've just wiped the chip ? Also how long do the battery's last for and do they recharge when the machine is on ? At some point the battery is going to need replacing , right , and i'm going to have to do this again ?

So next i did *UROMS and got this -

ROM C: (SL ) RH PLUS 1 1.31
ROM B* ( L ) BASIC

the * has a white square behind it like a cursor but its not flashing, is this normal ?

That's all ! :/ I was expecting some reference to ABR ROM or something but it seems 'looks to me' that the elk ROM is present ? the one with basic installed. and the new ROM on the +1 is showing with the updated 1.31 'firmware' ? but the ABR is not showing up as present ? Is the ROM on the ABR fried ? If its suspect how do i test it or is it just easier to replace the ROM on the ABR too ?

Some further clarification is required for me Dave. Sorry :/

Also in your post above you start off with

9 - PCB Jumpers. Is this referring to page 9 or chapter 9 ? I'm asking as I've had a scan of the ABR instruction Manual I've got and there are no page numbers but the last page is no 8 (not including the cover) and there's no mention of jumpers on it or anywhere in the manual i'm looking at :/

Thanks for all your help and patience Dave

Kind regards,

Paul.

Good, so far . . . I recommend that the battery be replaced every 2/3 years. They're not rechargeable!

Yes, it's just highlighting that BASIC is the current language. There 'should' have been other information. Could you take a photo of the screen. please.

You won't see any reference to an ABR - it's just RAM - no inbuilt software to declare itself.

Here's an image showing, first, just a *ROMS command. Note: the ABR contains the Utilities in both banks.
Second: A *UROMS - note the ABR is now showing RAM (the R highlighted).
Third: I clear the contents with the command: *ZERO 0/1 UL - the 0/1 are the bank numbers the UL tell the command to first Unlock the ABR - carry out the ZERO - then Lock the ABR.
Fourth: Another *UROMS showing the empty ABR banks but still showing they are RAM (R highlighted).

Also note on the very TOP line of the display that the system has recognised the extra RAM in the ABR. So indicates 64K not the usual 32K.

I sent you the latest User Guide, by eMail, on the 4th September!! The 9 refers to Chapter 9.

Hi Dave. Never received your E-Mail on the 9th but did get the RH Plus 1 User Manual on the 10th. its 20 pages long and has 7 chapters. I will have a more through read of it later this evening but never saw anything about jumpers in it on the first scan :/

I've attached a photo of my Screen After *ROM and *UROM. Im hoping im not doing something simple and i'm just being stupid but it might be something more serious.

As you can see the extra 32k isn't showing up although it was before and the other 'stuff' simply isn't present :/ Looks like we could have a tricky situation on hand :/
