BBC Master Audio Out

I fear this is a stupid question, but Google is letting me down...

I'd like to use the audio out port on my Master to connect it to some basic stereo speakers (the kind used with PCs, with a 3.5mm headphone type input), mainly as a way of controlling volume (I know you can modify the Master internally do allow the internal speaker volume to be changed, but that's probably beyond me, and anyway I fancy hearing a Beeb through speakers for a change), but I'm struggling to find a suitable cable for sale online. I can find nothing at all tagged as a "BBC Master audio" cable, and the vast majority of the RCA to 3.5mm audio cables I've found are stereo, i.e. two RCA plugs, when I only want one (I assume also the output from the Master is mono, so I'd want a cable which splits this so I get half and half in each speaker?).

Also, if I do find a suitable cable, will the internal speaker be disabled automatically, or do I need to unplug it somewhere?

As far as I know (but welcome to be proved wrong) no one makes a suitable cable (but it is possible to make one, are you coming to Cambridge this week?).

However, it's not hard to combine some cable(s) and an adapter. A suitable adapter for use with the cable you linked to is like this one from CPC. But there are various other possible combinations of cables and adapters.

The audio out connector on the Master does not have any way of detecting if anything is plugged in, so it makes no difference to the Master. So no, the internal speaker is not disabled automatically. You will need to open the case and disconnect it.
Once the case top is off, carefully lift the plastic cartridge and speaker assembly upwards. Then under it you will find a two pin connector: PL6. Unplug the speaker wires from the motherboard connector.

I think this is how I did it in the past.
Audio out to 3.5 mono

3.5 mono to 3.5 stereo

I seem to remember the quality wasn't great for some reason.

I added the audio out to my scart cable and now have audio through the tv.

... and it works fine, an even balance in each speaker. So I have my volume control, and the added benefit which I wasn't expecting of less static/interference noise (there is still some, but much less annoying than the internal speaker was, and I can easily turn it off when I don't need audio).

also works ok as a cheap and cheerful option. I was connecting to a simple (but louder) mono speaker that I also use with other 8bit systems.
