So, here's the video output to AV (yellow to yellow): providing a relatively crisp
image with no colours (suits me for teaching BBC BASIC):

similarly, video output to SCART: providing a relatively crisp
image with no colours:

Well, you do get colours: but at a crappy low standard.

Here's the Retro Clinic RGB DIN to SCART:

By far the best {and that's even visible even when my hand was wobbling].

During the week I'll play silly buggers with the TVs and my BBC Master Compact.

Looking forward to Andro's arrival with the "Yellow" to VGA connectors on the 20th.

What a "bother" !
-

-
"The Boy" arrived last night with the RCA to VGA converters, and they just
do NOT seem to pick up a signal from either the Model B or the Master Compact.

Would be most grateful for a few "pointers' if possible.

Are you sure they are for 625-lines (PAL) rather than 525-lines (NTSC)? The term 'RCA' for a baseband composite video connection is probably more commonly used in the USA.

To be honest I'm not sure if they are anything:

Connected to the Yellow & White Output sockets of a television that can manage
PAL, SECAM & NTSC I get NO signal on my VGA monitor.

BUT that is probably because I ordered 3RCA to VGA cables (which is what is marked on the outer packets):
but the inner packets are labelled "VGA to 3RCA": so I have been cheated.

How exactly are those cables wired? I don't know of any VGA monitors that will accept a composite signal on their inputs, especially not one with a horizontal frequency of 15KHz like the beeb puts out?

You need something to actually electrically convert the signal from composite to VGA, e.g.:

I dinnae ken, and I'm not going to see my way clear til opening them up to see.

This is the label on the envelope of what I ordered:

AND here is what was marked on the inner bag:

AND here is a film poster:

What they sent me were VGA to RCA (just checked by sending a PC signal out through an old telly).

Almost inevitably I start thinking of the phrase "Long Pork."

Weeelll - I don't think it's going to work for you. You definitely need something to convert the signal.

You definitely need something to convert the signal.
Notwithstanding that, I shall still send Amazon.co.uk a distinctly negative feedback note re those cables.

Ha, ha, ha; Amazon would not publish my review, presumably because I stated that I had been cheated.
