New Electron Interface

Post by guy314 » Sun Jun 25, 2017 3:52 pm

Ok, ages ago I mentioned about creating new Electron hardware... so progress hasn't exactly been rapid given I have to give preference to work clients are actually paying me for

But anyway, it does now physically exist and I'm working on the many challenges it presents!

Spec:
USB host (MSD + HID at the moment)
SD card
WiFi (yes, the trusty ESP8266)

I'll try and keep you updated on progress...

Looks promising. Let me know if/when ready to add to the hardware addon list

Hi there,
it's nice to see evermore projects for the Electron.

What does this interface do..?

It will enable the Electron to access USB devices - currently mass storage & HID (mouse at the moment).
Also has an SD card interface.
ESP8266 WiFi module

There's a 32 bit micro on the board running at 48 MIPS which is hooked onto the 6502 bus via a CPLD. In reality it may have been possible to handle the 6502 bus signals in code on the micro, given how slow the Electron is running. But I like programmable logic :D
There is also flash for the 6502 code. All of the firmware hopefully will be upgradeable on-the-fly so should be possible to add in new USB device support.

Anyway, hopefully it will give the Elk a new lease of life :D

Excellent project =D>

Just a thought, looking at the edge connector on your PCB, it looks as though it could be a little short in the width! I use 56.5mm, if that's any help?

It's 55.5mm at the moment, so an extra mm might be in order :D

Good plan . . . Otherwise there's a chance you'll connect to the wrong pins!

Sign me up! When I can get mine up and running of course  An ideas of a likely timescale and price point? :)
Not quite all there...
