Announcement : Update on hardware produced by me.

Post by Prime » Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:57 am

Hi all,

I thought as I keep getting enquiries I'd better update people.

First the "bad" news, It is with regret that I must announce that the mk 5.x Atom Colour board is going to be shelved indefinitely. I cannot get it to work sufficiently well for me to be satisfied with it or have any degree of confidence in the design. Plus it is an absolute pain in the ass to build (it has a buttload of discrete components that take ages to mount). So these won't be available in the foreseeable future sorry.

I still have perhaps 10 Atom RAMROM boards of the current design, and probably enough of the PLCC CPLDs to build them. After that the board will need a re-design as the PLCC CPLDs are no longer available, so would need re-laying out to accomodate the surface mount verion of the same chip.

I have two BeebSID boards left both of which are spoken for, but I have made the design files available in the past (if anyone needs them speak up), so if anyone wants to make another run from those files then feel free.

Again I have plenty of the Atom floppy interface boards, though they may be dependent on being able to source more WD177x floppy controllers, I think I have at least enough for 10 more, but will need to check.

I do still have plenty of the Electron Plus 3 RAMROM and the Electron Master RAM boards.

Also undergoing final testing and firmware shake down is my DragonMMC board which although not Acorn related may be of interest to some of the people on here. Now i just have to try and estimate numbers for this.....

Cheers.

Phill.

Hi Phill

It's a shame that you have discontinued the colour board.
I can understand how frustrating it was, as IIRC, there was problem after problem :-(
How many unused PCBs do you have left?

In any event, the forum thanks you for you continued efforts =D>

I will send you a PM as I'm interested in a Atom RAMROM board.

Mark

Sorry to hear about the colour board but I can understand your decision.

I'd be very interested in a DragonMMC interface and an Atom floppy interface.

Best wishes,

Rob

Seconded! :D All my prime add ons are superb, and even the colour board is *nearly* perfect.

Hi
I noticed your post around having spare
Electron Plus 3 RAMROM and the Electron Master RAM boards
I would be interested in 1 of each if they are assembled and available?
Thanks
Scott

Hi all,

Just to say as several of you have either pm'd or updated this thread I have made note of who wants what and will be contacting you in due time to let you know when boards are built / ready to dispatch.

One think I do need to point out is that some of these boards will need you to modify your machine, in the case of the master RAM board you will need to desolder your 6502 from your Electron's motherboard.

Cheers.

Phill.

My other half could be very happy to find a DragonMMC under the Christmas tree (or near her birthday cake) so colour me interested too.

Edit: hold on, this is a necromanced thread that I've replied to. (and the resurrecting message has disappeared while I wrote the above.) Excuse me, I appear to be talking to ghosts.

Double edit: the phantom post is back, but now below (and apparently after) mine. This thread must be haunted...

Humm,

This puts me in a difficult position, I had formally passed over production of the DragonMMC boards to Bas / TheCorifot, a few months back but am still getting the odd request for them. For various reasons Bas has not been able to do another run, so I'm not sure what I should do at this point.

Please stand by, if I havn't further responded in a couple of weeks please prod me again.

Cheers.

Phill.

Thanks for replying. I appreciate that you probably don't have any of the parts to hand at the moment, but If it would make the workload easier, I'd be happy to help assemble my DragonMMC (though with the caveats that I don't have the ability to burn an EPROM larger than 28 pins, and my experience with SM components is limited).

The last contact I had with Bas he said he was moving to Greece and would not be doing any more Acorn work.

Hello Everyone

Firstly Apologies to Phill and anyone else awaiting a new run of DragonMMC Boards

As some of you are aware my family and I have been planning and arranging a move to Corfu in Greece over the last 12 months and since Jine this year it has taken priority over most things.

I'm Pleased to say That we are now settled in our new home and we are all safe, well and happy.

The Workshop is also now open again for any repair and upgrade work, Acorn or otherwise, I have set up a safe delivery address and found suitable courier companies for despatch.

I had committed to producing a run of DragonMMC boards in 2017 but as explained above the reasons why it didn't happen.
However I will be ordering a qty of new PCB's in January with the hope of producing at least 30 boards by the end of February so please hang on in there because it will happen :)

Thanks to you all for your continued friendship and support

Bas ;)
