RiscOS File type D96 CFSIzw

Post by DutchAcorn » Wed Jun 03, 2020 9:43 am

On the hard disc of a RiscPC that I got many files have file type CFSIzw (D96). They have an icon associated with it but apparently no application (they won't open). It seems to be some kind of compression format.

Any ideas?

You need CFS which I think was distrubted by computer concepts.

It must already be on the hard disc I imagine if it's registered a file type and icon, mustn't it?

Yes, it is on there but it’s a file system. It compresses individual files which show up as files of type D96 on ADFS. If you view the files using CFS you see all the uncompressed files as well as the compressed files in their uncompressed state.
