In Da 80s / 16-17 July 2011 / Manchester
Re: In Da 80s / 16-17 July 2011 / Manchester
Hoping to pop down for a bit. Just have to wing it with the missus. I don't suppose I can pay on the door could I? Just that I probably won't know until the day whether I will be able to come but will definitely be seeing you at Blackpool in Nov. Cheers!

Not that I actually have a ticket yet!
I got one response from the lass saying I could pay with cheque, then when I asked for details (amount, address) got nothing back
If anyone is registered on that ticket site and can get me a ticket could they PM please, I can happily paypal the money over..

I've just realised I haven't got a ticket either, did anybody else have any luck in getting one, or are we allowed to pay on the door?
I'll most likely only be showing up on the Saturday; on Sunday it's the annual garden party for our local hospice which we try to support.

Was told to post this to two threads.....
My Android consultancy Little Fluffy Toys Ltd is launching the alpha of Beebdroid for Android at In Da 80s on Saturday, based on B-Em and written by my codirector Reuben Scratton. If you have an Android phone, or better still a Honeycomb tablet, bring it along and we'll install it for you. The alpha won't support direct disk loading, but it does come with a bunch of games preinstalled. If there's any games you want to see on the alpha, private-message me
Best of all, the release version will be open-source and free.
See you on Saturday!

Shame I can't make this (not that I can code, but it'd still be interesting to listen to the talks).
If it gets any write-ups in the press, please let us know on the forum. Have a great time everyone!

I hope this event is a real success. I'm real jealous all you guys n gals are going!
The list of special guests is incomplete though - if anyone can extract Chris Roberts from his Hollywood film producing duties, maybe he can pull apart Strykers Run... and together with you lot, make it a better game
Perhaps a bit harsh, I did enjoy it... that would be a pleasant surprise if he did turn up, however unlikely it may be.

Well, remember it's a 2-day event, and the pub's open till very late ... so even if you can only spare an hour or two, do feel free to pop in (and if you arrive after 5pm then you won't need a ticket).
Re: In Da 80s / 16-17 July 2011 / Manchester
Oooh,
a Beebfest in Manchester, it'd be rude not to go. Looking forward to seeing you all there
(This has to be one of the best kept secrets in Manchester, I only found out about it today, from a friend in Cambs...)

Re: In Da 80s / 16-17 July 2011 / Manchester
Unfortunately I can't make it. I was hoping that I could manage to pop up for one day, but between the missus wanting me to look after sprog whilst she goes to see an over-hyped film (I believe it has something to do with wizards) and work sending me to southern city for a long period next week; I just can't fit the time in to travel to even travel to Manc and back, let alone actually do something whilst there.
Re: In Da 80s / 16-17 July 2011 / Manchester
That's a great suggestion for those living close enough. My wife nearly bought me the train tickets last night (3 hours to Manc), but I'm really too knackered and would probably fall asleep slumped over a tabletop arcade machine (assuming they have some) so I talked her out of it. See you next time?Arcadian wrote:Well, remember it's a 2-day event, and the pub's open till very late ... so even if you can only spare an hour or two, do feel free to pop in (and if you arrive after 5pm then you won't need a ticket).
Re: In Da 80s / 16-17 July 2011 / Manchester
Right I'm off to catch the train to Manchester, will be there hopefully from 7.30ish
I'm bringing An Atom with some new hardware fitted and will hopefully showing off some of the new RS games. Will have the clone there too for comparison.
Also taking my prototype DragonMMC to show to people.
So I hope to catch up with people over the weekend.
Cheers.
Phill.

I'd love to go but my wallet is empty right now, besides from Sunday I'm due to sit my sister's dog.
Hope you all have a lovely time.

Have a great weekend folks! (Seriously jealous here

I'm especially looking forward to seeing what the combined brain power of all those great coders will produce...
. (We will see pics, vids and some detailed write-ups, right?
).

Some early rushes from the first day:
This is the souped-up Atom before somebody tried to turn it into an alcoholic: A selection of gaming machines: One Dalek is capable of exterminating all! Tea time! This is the 3-D version of Chuckie-Egg: Somebody suggested that I should place the 3-D specs in front of the camera lens to capture the effect. I'm not sure it worked:
The ubiquitous Repton: All snug in the Snug:

A ZXpanded ZX81:
A new game, which I think is called HamptonCourtruoCnotpmaH, which is so new I'm probably not even allowed to have taken a picture of it yet:
Not guilty!!
Sadly I didn't get a picture of Sonique the Porcupiness getting her kit off - I would have done, but Dave F was standing next to me and he steamed up the lens!

Cheeky gits. Definitely a winning venue this one, good beer, good people, and a decent hotel and curry house nearby. Result!

At least I think that's what he said, there was a lot of background noise...

If anyone managed to pick up a SCART lead with BBC written on the SCART plug in silver pen, it's prolly mine.
Note said lead has no resistors in it as I actually use it with the Atiom Colour board....
Cheers.
Phill.
