Acorn Preservation Team meeting #2, Sunday 18th October 2020, 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Post by Arcadian » Sat Oct 03, 2020 12:48 am

We've established a new, monthly virtual event - for anyone who:
  • has an interest in preservation
  • would like to get involved with the creation/maintenance of preservation websites and archives
  • owns a collection of Acorn software/hardware/literature and are willing to dump/scan items themselves, or loan items for preservation
The second session will take place on Sunday 18th October between 6pm - 9pm. If you would like to attend, please post below and we will issue you with the Zoom details closer to the time (if you've yet to attend an ABug Zoom meeting, please state that you are happy to receive the Zoom information in the form of a Calendar Invite email sent from the ABug Google account).

The team has made some good progress on "Phase 1" (web-based File Management Solution) and will update all attendees at the meeting on the 18th.

Thanks, and comments welcome!

I may be mainly in a lurking capacity.
Please send me all info I need.
Never done zoom before

Please add me to the list - I’d like to learn about approaches to archiving / preservation.

Would like to join this but family may have to take priority this time. If I can get the time away I will post again to request the meeting details.

In any event, I suspect my time may be better served right now by trying to sort out the boxes and boxes of software and manuals I’ve got, and fix my drives so I can get on with archiving discs. Since discs degrade faster than paper!

Time zones make it difficult for me to attend but perhaps someone could advocate on my behalf for any digital archives to be stored, at least as duplicate backups, on archive.org.

It doesn't cost anything and is becoming the default universal location for retro and abandoned software and related materials.

I will probably drop in on this one. philpem has kindly agreed to give a talk at next week's RISC OS London Show about archiving, so it's probably a good idea for me to get a bit better informed!

I'll be free from 7 if there's room for me, but I'm a bit of a lurker so no worries if not.
