A longer version of something done elsewhere.

Picture quality gets worse as I got more bored. Afraid you have to watch it till at least half way to see the relevance to this thread.

Now a full table has become available, I'm trying to convince the wife that it would be a good weekend away. I have to act fast though before the remaining space is taken. I have amassed some recent bits (in another post) and it would be good to bring the RISCIX backup to see if anyone can do anything with it.

I've got a Plotmate Plotter that is in need of pens (or some solution for holding any pen in the pen holder) so any ideas on that front would be good. I could certainly bring it. There are some floppy discs that need archiving too, so I'd bring an external Data Centre and the multi-colour keyboarded BBC B. I've also got a rather messy Master that has had one of the black rubber feet melt off - the one under the power supply. Is that something to keep an eye on?

I'd like to bring the wife (I'm her full time carer), is there space for us both to squeeze in? I suppose I could say we're each having half of the table :D   She'd most likely wander off around the museum anyway.

With regard to leaving vehicles in the museum car park, we have a van which we've slept in before so if that's OK to do we would be in the car park overnight. Does anyone see any problem with this?

It would be good to finally put faces to names and meet some of you guys.
I'm writing a game where you can change your character from a Wizard to a monkey to a cat.

Well, Imogen that!

Hi Simon

So just to be clear, there is no problem with you bringing your wife.
Sorry, I can’t answer the van question.

Will you be there for all three days (Friday afternoon to Sunday)?

Hi guys.

We'll be up on Friday (travelling from Hampshire), and will leave Sunday afternoon.

Looking forward to coming along and meeting those who will be there.

Have a few things I could bring, including:

Hardware
A BBC B with multi-coloured key tops. I posted pictures of this machine a while back (but the pictures may have been hosted elsewhere which is now gone). This machine is quite odd with orange number keys and yellow arrow keys.
A CUB monitor. It's working well, but could really do with improved convergence. I'm not totally sure what would need to be tweaked so I'm a bit afraid to do it myself, so if anyone who is coming knows what they're doing, would they be able to take a look?
A BBC Master that needs one new black rubber foot at the bottom of, and I think needs the power supply caps changed. I'm pretty sure I've got a spare set of caps too. Does anyone have any of those black rubber feet? Failing that, it might be worth figuring out why the foot below the power supply melted (if that's not an indication of too much heat I don't know what is). As a last resort, I may take the three remaining feet off and replace all 4 with something else (when I find something suitable).

Software
3.5" floppies containing a RISCIX backup (not sure what can be done with them)
5.25" floppies that are resisting export to Data Centre (they may be copy protected as some are original floppies). Does anyone have a kryoflux and 5.25" drive that may be able to try to read the floppies?

I can bring a Weller Solder station along with some solder and iron, if there's call for it, but I half expect others to bring one.

Anyone think of anything I've shared about, listed or mentioned in the past that would be good to see? I've got a Plotmate Plotter (without pens), Music 500 system, couple of A3020s, etc.

I have also recently published a game on the ZX Spectrum. It would be great to be able to see it running on the BBC Micro using one of the nULA devices. I don't have one, however. I can bring the .tzx or .tap file (tape snapshot) or .sna or .z80 (memory snapshot) depending on what is required.

I suspect the rubber in the foot degraded (chemical reaction) rather than heat. Although chemical reactions are of course speeded up with increased temperatures...

I’ve seen people after feet before, but can’t remember where. So maybe worth searching the forum and the web

I am beginning to think about stuff to bring. I could setup the Tube Bad Apple demo if anyone wants to see it - although most ABUG regulars will have done so already.

I bought an Acorn branded twin double sided 80T (not 40/80) floppy drive a while back as faulty meaning to repair one drive and fit a gotek... but one drive worked and the other was a simple repair (shorted tantalum capacitor) so I don't want to 'split' it now. I can bring it along if anyone has £50 for it?

edit: Drive case is in good condition

Would it be alright if Sharon comes along to this one? I know we are tight for space; but she asked if she could come along without any prompting.

I can't speak in an official capacity, but as you've booked a full table, I can't see it being a problem.

Hi Robert

I was asked a similar question earlier by another member. As you have booked a full table, I don’t have a problem with Sharon attending. The other person asked about the entry cost. I replied that it is per person, not per table.

I hope this helps :D

Everyone, please do report back how well this event goes. Feedback, be it good or not so good will be useful so if needed, we can make adjustments for future ABug events.

Here is a thought.

I have half a table, and plan to spend most of my time putting rosin into the atmosphere, is it worth putting the solders together or spread out, is there anyone who would be driven mad by fume fans or large amounts of steaming tree juice?

Hi,
This is a long shot, but it is important, so I will ask anyway...
Would anyone be able to scan a magazine whilst at ABUG?
It is in storage box MAG53 and is entitles "Games Computing" September 1984
Ideally, the full magazine would need scanning.
Less than ideally, but better than nothing, I would like the articles/listings for the BBC Micro games contained within.
This is a rare magazine and I would really like to get it archived [-o<

Thank you in advance

Lee.

Hi

Appreciate the post says this is now full but not sure if that’s for booked tables etc?

Is it at all possible to pop in for a few hours on the Saturday or Sunday? I dropped into Wakefield for a few hours which was really good to meet people like Daniel, Dave H etc etc.

I could also drop back the Podule paper work for Dave H now I’ve copied it (I2C playing!)

If the Saturday is rammed let me know as Sunday would be fine. Obviously appreciate entrance fee etc.

Many thanks
John Gray

Hi John

Saturday really is completely full including the allowance for "No-Kitter" places. See the lists in the first post. You can still visit the museum. But you may have difficulty squeezing into the ABug room...

On the Sunday there is even a free full table if you want one. Also a free half table. And some "No-Kitter" places.
So you are very welcome to join everyone on the Sunday :D

Let me know if you want a table, or will just be a "No-Kitter" and I’ll add you to the list in the first post.

Thanks Mark,

Much appreciated, add me in as a no kit visitor for the Sunday if that’s ok. I won’t need a table but if anyone wants to look at my 1024k master 86 co pro with a memory fault then I would be very grateful!

Thanks very much, put me down for the Sunday please.

I could bring along my Brother Multi Function A3 Printer/Scanner/Copier. Not sure how useful that is but it's pretty big and depending on if you're able to separate the pages somehow, might be able to scan it in without user assistance as it has a multi scan feature.

At this rate I might have to leave the wife at home to give me more space for stuff :-)

Important Update

I have just been informed that the museum has increased it’s prices.

The museum entrance fee is now £9 per person per day for adults.
- If you are attending the ABug event for the entire weekend (two or more days), the fee will be £18 - to be paid as an £9 museum entrance fee on two consecutive days (e.g. on Saturday and Sunday).
- If you are attending for one day, then the fee will be £9.
- Please inform the staff that you are attending as an ABug attendee.

There is now an ABug event page on the museums web site which is here: www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/53250/A ... June-2019/

This also shows the prices for children and concessions.

We are sorry about this late notice of the price changes.

Just FYI: For me, it's a tiny drop compared to the drive from Devon, B&B, etc. so an extra couple of quid? Less than a cup of coffee..

Hi there,
The museum increased the admission fee for adults some weeks back but I hadn't noticed {being a volunteer I obviously don't pay fee when I go and also haven't worked behind the til for some time}.

I'm sorry this one passed me by and thus giving late notice in price increase.

Thanks,
Jason

Also, do consider the fact that there is enough money in the budget for a fulsome supply of unhealthy snacks and soft beverages which I will provide subject to approval from Jason F.

Well, we didn’t think it would be a problem, but we prefer to be upfront with any changes so that everyone is kept fully up to date.

It may not be much of an increase, but it is still different to what has been advertised on here for months.

What's an extra two quid per person attending for the whole weekend? Nothing.

You can't even buy a Euromillions ticket with that.
