FSD versions of the disks Flaxcottage kindly sent me
(and Dreamtime since i had that too!
also Graph Builder V2 that is supposedly compatible with B+ and Master... it doesn't run from the !BOOT with my Watford DFS setup, but *W1S BOOT allows it to load up - but won't run with a 1770 DFS since i haven't altered disc1770.cpp)

My next instalment ...

SPACE MISSION MADA

Another of Sherston's excellent graphical adventures for junior-age children.

This is ADFS only, I am afraid, as I only have the Master 128/Compact version and the Archimedes version (to follow). Included are the Teacher's booklet and the Student booklet.

The programs have been modified to run from either floppy disc (two needed) or from Hard Disk. This has been tested on a real Master 128 and on BeebEm.

Next title preserved is Mapventure by Sherston.

Again this is ADFS for the Master and Compact. It has been tested on a real Master and on BeebEm. I have included the documentation that was with the package but I suspect it is incomplete.

If anyone has any extra documentation I should appreciate a scan, thanks. [-o<

I've been quiet on the Sherston front. The protection mechanism changed and threw me a curve-ball. :?

The next offering is Animated Numbers.

This is for the Master and Master Compact ADFS and is complete with documentation. It has been tested on a Master and on BeebEm.

A rest from Sherston packages for the moment. 8)

This package is from Jacaranda Software, an Australian company, and is called Clockwise.

It is an adventure in space and time aimed at Junior children. The software is well written and the problems with calculating time are challenging. There is a wealth of documentation, including some very good worksheets. One worksheet explains the calculation to work out the day of the week when you were born.

There are two versions included. The first is an ADFS version for the Master and Compact and, supposedly the A3000, though I could not get this latter to work from the BBC disc on my A3020. The second is a version to work with RISCOS 3.1.

The BBC image, Clockwise.adl, has been checked on a real Master and on BeebEm. The RISCOS 3.1 image, Clockwise.adf, has been checked on my A3020 and on the Red Squirrel emulator.

The software is in the first zip file.

Another package from Jacaranda. This one is Gold Dust Island.

A strategy game for children aged 9 - 18. A good idea but somewhat lacking in programming skill. Now if Sherston had produced this ...

Comes complete with documentation. The program is on SSD. It originally was a 320K ADFS version but I could not get the disk to work on BeebEm, although it did on a real BBC Master. The SSD version works both on BeebEm and a real BBC micro.

Fantasy Isle is a story-writing package for 8-13 year olds.

This is definitely one for the classroom. :?

Not one of the many I have. So I am looking for this too. :(

If anyone has it I can perhaps help in cracking it to get a digital copy (ssd or adl).

I have a copy of this. Will FSD ASAP. I've now written a program which can strip the FSD-isms of the disk image away, to produce an SSD, although depending on the layout of the disk, it's not always possible. I should think that Zillion will SSD nicely. Watch this space! (Unless somebody beats me to it)

Removed the data comparison check which utilizes the Data CRC error on track 27 sector 9. Everything seems to work OK. :)

That's great, thanks.

Now I have set myself a mission ....

1. Use my Datacentre to make a real disc from the SSD
2. Hack the disc to extract the missing files and save them
3. Modify the files not to use W1S
4. Re-image for DFS and ADFS

Watch this space...

You would not happen to have the documentation too would you and be able to scan it or return a favour and let me borrow it and I can scan it and post on the forum? [-o< [-o<

I've also scanned the booklet, but each A4 (2 x A5 pages) scan comes out at around 2MB each - does this sound right?

Hacking Zillion should be similar to the previous Sherston titles. I imaged The Wizard's Revenge earlier which uses a weak / Data CRC sector on track 0. I've also seen some later titles which overread the sector too, but once the check is removed, or the disk is suitably FSD'd it's all good.

Thanks for the documentation Mr billcarr2005. =D> =D>

The size of scanned pages depends on several factors. It is always a compromise between size of image and quality of image.

I use 300dpi for black and white images and 200dpi for grey-scale and colour images, sometimes going to 250dpi for colour to avoid moire effects. This gives a total file size for the package of between 8-12MB when zipped, depending on the amount of documentation. I also crop small images before saving.

I converted the SSD images to real disks and hacked about with the code. So far they seem to be working correctly. The next task will be to place all three DFS discs onto an ADFS disc so I can run it from my CF hard drive. (I know some out there hate ADFS but Compact owners, Archimedes owners, network owners and hard drive owners use it. )

John, this is really nice to see you publishing all this. =D> =D>
A while back I wanted to started to do something like this, but lack of time put a hold on it. (And also I'm not very good at cracking software)
Now I took a view games for my son and translated it to Dutch so he could play with it.

If you want I have some 'Fun School' disk images for you to add to the list, including manuals?

Also some other titles to copy for you. If you want I can sent a list to you.

Cheers
