Everygamegoing Now Running At Supersonic Speeds

Post by Dave_E » Tue Dec 05, 2017 11:38 am

Hi everyone,

So...

over the last 3 months I have completely rewritten the Everygamegoing back-end. It's now written in the Yii framework and it runs fast. Seriously fast in fact. One of the big problems it's had since I launched it two years ago was the speed of execution, mainly because I adapted it from my Dragon32Universe site and that was kinda thrown together in a few weeks.

Coupled with the Bootstrap makeover I gave Everygamegoing earlier this year, I really think I can be proud of this site now. It has instructions, downloads, books, release dates and tens of thousands of reviews. Just try searching for your favourite game on it, you'll be amazed really.

As my time has been taken up with refactoring the old code, there haven't been too many new additions to it, but now that that rewriting is finished, I'll get back to updating it with all the new homebrew and recovered software that appears.

This is just a general appeal to all those with an interest in the Beeb. It has thousands of BBC games on it and I'd be grateful if anyone with a bit of time on his hands would:

a) register and add his collection of games (and report any bugs)
b) play around with the Storage Containers section (and report any bugs or features that you'd like to see implemented)
c) note any missing games, games without screenshots, games without downloads, games without instructions
d) set reminders, request videos, etc, etc.

If you're a fan of the Spectrum, then you'll also find it now has loads of new exclusive Speccy content too.

Now it's fully written in a modern framework I hope to open it up so that everyone can also *sell* on it. So you log in, add your games and if you end up with two copies of the same one, you click 'Sell This On Everygamegoing' and it's immediately available. Just need a Paypal Me button and as soon as someone sees and wants the item, you get the money and can post it. Can't think of anything more simple and/or convenient... :-)

Please have a look around it, it's well worth a few minutes of your time.

I just get "bad request" when clicking on most things... :(

Um, that *has* to be just you. It's all working perfectly to my knowledge.

comes from clicking on bbc micro b on this page:

Cheers. Fixed. That won't happen again. It's just something I was testing a few days ago that somehow didn't get updated. :-)

http://www.everygamegoing.com/egg/landi ... ype/games/

this page ends with:

Winter Olympics (1986) (Tynesoft) (BBC Master Compact, 3.5" Disc, English)
%HTML_REPORT_SOMETHING_WRONG%

and doesn't have any of my games, even though I think they are all compatible - or is it compact only games?

I've recently started watching your old five games five minutes videos for the Electron. Quite amusing in places :D

I think you can be very proud. I am amazed at what you have achieved. Loads of content. I don't know how you managed it.
I'm working on http://bbcmicro.co.uk
