Basic editor roms - difference

Post by robert24 » Thu Oct 26, 2017 1:03 pm

I have two ROM images of the Acornsoft Basic Editor 1.32

1. BEdit132
2. BEdit132x

Ran a compare and the only difference is that the x version has a x'14' instead of a x'00' at some point. Haven't disassembled it yet cos we thought someone here would probably already know the difference.

So... over to you experts out there... [and thanks :-) ]

You're right, I thought they might be well known.

It's the x version that has the $00 in place of $14 and this is the lo-byte of a JMP destination. In the x version, this sends the jump to an illegal instruction (actually the opcode of a two-bye instruction) so on unintelligent analysis, the x version is set up to fail at some point. Unless I'm missing something, I'd say its effectively corrupt.
