A3020 disk images

Post by prm1971 » Tue Dec 19, 2017 9:11 am

Hi,
Sorry if this is a basic question but couldn't find with search.

Recently won an A3020 and it's on its way to me in Sweden.

Question is, how do I get disk images off the Internet onto the machine the easiest way?

Thanks in advance,
And again apologies if this is a basic question that has been answered many times.

The way I use is to download the image onto a Windows XP computer (actually a Windows 7 computer and then transfer the files to the XP one via my Ethernet).

There are 3 ways I now transfer software;

1. The XP computer has a motherboard floppy disc driver (this is important as a USB floppy drive will not work) with a 3.5" FDD. I have OmniFlop installed on the XP computer and use this to make a physical image of the Archimedes disc image onto an appropriately formatted disc.

2. Copy the image onto a 1.44Mb formatted floppy disc and transfer it to the A3020. On the A3020 I run !ADFFS and load the image directly into that.

3. I download the image and load it into the Red Squirrel A5000 emulator. From there I copy the files onto the emulator HDD and zip them using !SparkFS or some such (this is important to preserve the file type attributes). The resultant zip image is in the Red Squirrel-HostFS-310 folder. This I copy to a PC format floppy and transfer to the A3020 where it is unzipped and installed.

Hope this helps and good luck with the A3020, they are great machines.

Why do I keep collecting Acorn gear? I'm going to need a considerably bigger man-cave. :?

Thanks so much! Really appreciate you taking the time.

I have no old PCs so will options 2 & 3 work with a USB floppy drive?

Hi, Just got the computer home to me and all seems to be in order apart from the missing cmos battery which I'll figure out at some point.

How do I get !ADFFS onto the machine? I have a hard disc, searched through it but couldn't find this app.

thanks again!
