Zip Drive Barrel Connector

Post by JonC » Sat Oct 29, 2016 1:44 pm

Hi All,

Can anyone with a parallel port zip 100 confirm the barrel size of the power connector?
I think it's od:5.5 and i.d:2.5mm...

Mine has blown so I'm just going to get a generic new one rated at 2 amps/5v.

Cheers

Jon

Edit: Reason I'm asking, is that the tape measure I have makes it very hard to be accurate, so I'm after confirmation!

I'll try and measure mine with a caliper when I'm in the garage tomorrow (if no one gets there first)...

Just measured mine and it's 5.5mm outer and (less accurately because I don't have an internal caliper gauge that small), about 2.8mm inner to accommodate a 2.5mm pin I guess.

Great stuff, thanks both.

Once martin confirms the inner diameter, I'll get some ordered. :D

Is that me or is munchausen another Martin? If me, I don't have the means to do better than I have already. I measured the outer on digital calipers but had to use Mk.1 Eyeball on the inner - pretty sure tho you want 5.5/2.5... 8)

Ok Jon, that unsettled me 8-[ so, I just had a brainwave, albeit with a small brain...

The twist drill is a 2.5mm item and is a nice snug fit in the connector... :D

I normally just try a known 2.1mm and 2.5mm "plug". If the "socket" is 2.5mm, the 2.1mm "plug" will be a loose fir compared to the 2.5mm. And of course, if it's the other way around, the 2.5mm"plug" will not mate with the 2.1mm "socket"

Sorry, I saw Martin's reply and thought you were sorted, so didn't check yesterday! It sounds like you've got it now :)

I'm exhausted trying to throw off a cold, and I've clicked onto this thread four times today, each time thinking it says "barrel convertor" and wondering what on earth it could be.... ;)
