A3xx/A4xx Oblong FDD LED's

Post by JonC » Sun Jul 24, 2016 4:32 pm

Hi All,

I've managed to fix the floppy drive that Parcelfarce damaged when delivering my A440 (yay!) however the orange activity led is toast and needs replacing.

Anyone know where I can source one from (with long legs as it needs to bend at 90 degrees and align with a facia hole)?

Cheers :D

Just to confirm the spec, 5v, 5mm is what I'm looking for?

I don't know exactly what the one you're replacing looks like, but oblong LEDs are a common part. e.g.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-Piece-Rect ... SwHnFVxMvp

You'll also find them at rapid, farnell, rs, mouser etc.

I'll grab a photo of the one in my A310 tomorrow. As far as I can see, the HDD and Power LED's in these models are the same size.

Yup, with a variety of specs from what I can see :(
If anyone knows the full spec that would be handy! :)

Most are 1.8V to 2.3V and need a current limiting resistor.
But 5V types are available (they have extra circuitry to limit the current).
So check the schematic, as I suspect 5V types were not used (they cost more). Or if no schematic is available, trace the tracks back to see if you come to a resistor.
They are available in a number of colours and many shapes and sizes.

I have some red ones you can have for the cost of postage, but I will have to measure them, as I don't have the size to hand.

Offer only available if this is to repair the item for personal use and not for resale.

Thanks Mark, these are just the standard one's from the Archie floppy drive. I've no idea what spec was used and don't want to take the drive apart if I don't have to. (I've attached some photos of the LED in my A310 floppy which is exactly the same unit)

Thanks but I'd prefer to use the original amber colour. Dimensions are 5mm by 2mm

Tut tut, I'm insulted. I'm not a fix and flog it. [-X

It looks like a rectangular led.
If you're still looking for some, I can send you one yellow, one red and on green for free via a letter
The leds have 25mm legs and have not been used before.
Please keep in mind leds have polarity. Usually the short leg is cathode (-)
just give me your address via PM and I will send the leds back. Allow some days of delivery as I leave in France..
cheers
