Help for RPC with CMOS self resetting [SOLVED]

Post by aotta » Thu Jul 11, 2019 11:12 pm

I need some help in repairing my RPC: i bought it with a battery leakage, and i repaired it by desoldering cmos and using a RTC podule from CJE micros.
It worked fine for months, and i added a SA Cpu, 4.02 riscos, ethernet, zidefs podules, 128mb ram, ecc.
Some days ago it stopped working, got no video or garbage screen, and unable to change the configuration parameters.
I found a lost connection from pin 1 of RP16, so repaired the track and get RPC working again... quite well.
It boot in ADFS, i can change configuration with no errors but, when resetting, i got a red screen at boot (a full red screen, not only the borders), and the parameters at °status command are the default ones.
And, the R or Del keys at power seems not working.
The strange thing is that i get the same results even without the RTC clock inserted!

So i am a bit confused... the RPC boot even without the Cmos?

Connection to IOC 43 and 44 pins seems ok, the only other strange thing i found is that 5v and Gnd seems shorted in PSU (and in MB when psu is plugged), but when powered i got a good 5.1 volt from psu... and RISCPC works fine (apart the cmos status).

Any suggestion? thank you in advance

I solved the strange issue, and it was more easy than i thougt... simply a bad soldering in the rear of panel where i mounted the rtc clock, for save a podule!
A little wire probably touched the side pin (in the area marked by the red arrow, in the picture at bottom), not enough to note with my multimeter, but probably enough to interfere in reading and writing to cmos.
I cleaned and remade the soldering points, and now all works fine again.
Maybe my experience will be useful for someone!

Yes, i fixed with hot glue the wiring, and RPC works fine now, and store parameters fine!
..and I discovered RPC boots without clock module too! 😃
