Hello fellow Beeb heads from Sunny old London

Post by pixelblip » Wed Feb 04, 2015 9:09 pm

Hello there.
First post to you all. Hello!

I am a long time BBC User here......I did all my best work on it looking back now.
My Music 5000.......The Island Logic Music system - ahhh! Those were exciting times.........wow........
It's nice to come across a site like this.... I knew about Stairway to Hell but never bothered to set up a forum account so here goes.

I remember doing animations with Slippery Slug Movie Maker - anyone remember
that trying to make things move in Teletext mode? And what about AMX Super Art? That was awesome....in 4 colours. Wow.

Oh what about Superior Software's !Speech !!!! I remember that very well.

It only seems like yesterday. I must stop now hehhe

Later on I went on to an Archie (A310) and tried out Euclid and Illusionist /Render Bender. I did my art degree with those. Got some cracking images from them.

I am starting to realise less is more the older I get. Those early programs made me do things and push the boundaries that I wouldn't do today because of the limitations. I feel like firing up BBC Basic again and buying another Music 5000 system!

Well hope to speak on the forums to you soon.......on a last note it was the game 'Microbes' that blew my mind....my mate had that....and I bought his BBC off him.....even today Microbes is well impressive!

Ok I better go as I'm turning into an old codger going on about the good old days.....!

See you on the forums!
Mike

Welcome from another young at heart old codger from near London (there is a map of where in the world people live on here somewhere).
I'd love to see microbe on the high score challenge, maybe in season 5.

Welcome fellow Londoner :-)

Shame you weren't here last year, sounds like you'd have loved this - http://www.rougol.jellybaby.net/meetings/2014/apr.html

Although Chris Jordan does pop up on here occasionally. There have been a couple of Music500 threads.

Thanks everyone! That's nice of you all ....thanks a lot.

Zarchos - I will post up some new piccies once I get them on the go....once I remember my way around the software :) I am tempted to crack open AMX Super Art as well......what was the name of that guy......Joe Lavery - he did some brilliant pictures.....

Yeh I read about Chris Jordan and that meeting ....what a shame I missed that last year.....I came across some tracks I'd not heard for years......cor those were the days typing in AMPLE tracks from Acorn User!

Music 4000 was way ahead of it's time.....the way you could play notes from a keyboard into it....I remember thinking wow...that was the future. Oh gosh it's so tempting to revisit it all now and buy all the kit back. Cubase Audio on the Falcon was another wow moment for me......

I also remember hearing the Beeb Toccatta demo in 3 part with the pipes being drawn....little milestones that stick in the memory.....that must have taken someone a long time to do.

I don't know what happened to my BBC.....I hand painted it ( sacrilege I know ) and swapped all the keys around on it so they sloped in different angles + they were all painted really whacky colours....I recall the paint job was very psychedelic....wish I'd kept it now!

Is there a decent IOS Archie Emulator anyone? I'm on the Ipad a lot nowadays.....can't recall if Apple have eased up on emulators lately....
