GOSDC for ELK
hi just joined this group. need help if anyone knows...
I have just repaired my elk and got it up and running, I have fitted a GOSDC socket which goes straight into the back of the machine (no plus one)
I cannot get the this to work, I have managed some basic instructions but want to save my progs onto the sd card and put games on it.
can anyone please give instructions on how to do this in plain English or better still a utube blog with how to use the thing for saving both games and own written prog onto it.
this would be much appreciated...
many thanks

Hey there, welcome to the forum! Did you buy from John Kortink? I believe he's usually good at answering questions about his products?

This is from memory, but it’s quite a while since I’ve used it. Roughly you need to:-
- Configure the jumpers on the device. Probably nothing to do for you as it’s already configured
- Insert your SD card, turn on the Elk
- Configure your choice of filing system(s) e.g. Elk DFS and ADFS
- Prepare the SD card for use. It formats the SD card with a custom filing system

Re: GOSDC for ELK
thank you for your help its given me some new points to look at.

Re: GOSDC for ELK
Not aware of any resource outside of John, his docs and his google group (if that still exists).
I have the Electron goSdc that goes in the cartridge. Not used for a while though. When you say not working can you not get electron to see it at all? Or certain functions not working etc.

I also found this review useful when setting up and using the GoSDC even if it’s for the BBC. http://www.retroisle.com/general/revie ... _part2.php

Re: GOSDC for ELK
If memory serves me you cannot create a disk on the Electron, you need to use the pc/Mac tool.
Although I see there has been a new version of firmware for the goSdc so that might have changed. Will have to have a look. But before I always created them on the Mac/pc.

Re: GOSDC for ELK
Okay the issue is you are using commands from firmware version 1.0.9 but looking at your banner you have version 1.0.7 (same as me) and there is no
SDCNEW
in 1.0.7. Hence it doesnt do anything.
So you need to either flash gosdc to 109 firmware or using instructions for 107. I have attached the 107 docs.
The equiv in 1.0.7 is
*SDCTool SDCADI DN $2$ <your disc name>

Re: GOSDC for ELK
I think SDCTOOL SDCADI to create new disks doesnt work how you think it might, from memory, so that is probably whey the new SDCNEW, it was added in version 1.0.8 by the looks of if. History for changes for 1.0.8 and 1.0.9 are here.

Re: GOSDC for ELK
again thanks to all the people for replying, it was much easier to get my BBC master to work with USB installation than this is, I did try the MMC explorer software but my virus checker through it out straight away... so... but some more good things to try.
Re: GOSDC for ELK
Was there something particular you were trying to put on the volume? I.e. I usually dump the ‘hell’ archive of software onto the sd card. Did you try doing it from the PC side or flash to the latest FireWire, or use the instructions for 1.0.7 I posted above?
Or it is purely you want to create an empty disc, and then save and load a listing to it?
Edit: And do you have access to a PC, which OS, with a SDCard reader?
