And yet another member from the Netherlands

Post by janvb » Sat Mar 07, 2020 6:22 pm

Back in the early eighties i was fascinated by digital electronics, wich was also explained in The Hobbit, an electronics magazine . Dit a lot with the TTL 74xx series. Then the acorn atom came along. It was sold as a kit, and for me, at that time, the ultimate digital experience thingy :D.
After bin fully expanded, bought also the Atoms Diskdrive. Had a lotta fun for many years (6 a 7 years) with this machine.
Have also a MSX computer, the Sony Hitbit F720. Both the atom and msx went after years of joy into the cellar.
Now that i am retired, i have lots of time to kill. Was at first triggered by Ben Eater who build a simple 6502 micro on a bread board.
Then decided to blow the dust of my Atom and put some current in it.
As described in this forum, you could test the atom (without monitor) with the CTRL G command to hear a beep. It didnt :( .
Replaced al the capacitors, and stripped to minimal configuration. Nothing happend. For my SNES i had ordered an S-video to VGA converter some time ago, wich happend to arrive at the correct moment to check the atom. He seemed to be OK except for some keys. Several springs where broken inside the keyboard, no wonder after an age of 40 years, of wich where more then 30 spend in the cellar, hahahahaha.
To make a long story short, i replaced al the keys with microswitches. Its not the most elegant method, but it works for me.
At this moment playing with UEF files to blow some programs in the atom. Floppy's for the diskdrive have all bin gone  and my old tape recorder of age 52, doesnt do the job anymore, so no storage for me at this time. Instead i use my computer to save and load cassette files.
Thats it for the moment guys.
Thanks for letting me join.

Welcome Jan and enjoy the forum.

Great to have another Atom user joining the forum.
You can connect the output of your PC soundboard or phone or MP3 player to the cassette input port of the Atom.

There are a lot of new expansions available for the Atom: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8168&p=86259&hilit ... ard#p86259

Greetings
Kees

Hi Paul,

That would be awesome.
I hope the diskdrive is still operational.
1 disk with operating files would be enough.
Let me know how to buy them.
