Ahoy hoy

Post by Colday » Sat Aug 10, 2019 8:00 am

Col, from North Essex.

General idiot (see sig)

But learning loads as have taken up repairing old 8 bit machines (after doing modern stuff for years) and with soldering iron in hand (and an Oscilloscope et al) it's all getting to be a lot of fun.

Middle aged and trying to capture my youth again I suppose. 2 kids (7 & 8) who love the 8 bit games (almost as much as Roblox) and a small amount of disposable income means I can almost justify to myself buying this stuff.

Currently have a Beeb B, an Electron, 4x Amstrads (it's what I had as a kid), a Spectrum rubber key and a ZX81. I also appear to have acquired from somewhere an old Toshiba portable (looks like a laptop (ish) but has no batteries). Think its an T3100e/40 if I remember rightly, which also works fine with it's orange plasma screen.

Only the Beeb not currently working (100% anyway).

Anyway, that's me.
BBC B's... I had five but was stupid when young and skipped them. (Yeah I know)
Now have an Issue 7 B with a few issues I'm working through.
Also have a dual disk drive (only one works at the moment) but no disks.
Retro computers.... money pits.

Well now Elminster.

I'm in Halstead but it's usually pointless putting it down as no-one knows where it is, followed by that they then ask if I'm in Kent.

Which is nice.

Famous for boilers rather than retro computers. About the same distance from colchester me, but on the coast side.

All I would say is 'Don't buy a Halstead Boiler'

They are utter rubbish.

Thanks Baz.

I shall post some utter random drivel until such time as my PM rating rises.

They used one of our competitors' thermostat/ignition control PCBs. If your home is heated by a Glow-Worm Micron, Ultimate or SpaceSaver, though, that mobo is my own handiwork.

A quicker alternative is to click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page, and ask an Admin to enable your PM priviledges manually.
