Hi from 'Ull, East Yorks

Post by baz67 » Thu Aug 08, 2019 9:05 pm

Now then,

Hope you're all beeping (or should that be...BEE-BEEP-ing) along fine here on Stardot.org.uk forum.

I am indeed passionate about Acorns - especially Beebs and Elks - but am also an Oric and Atari nut, so please indulge me in my other retro micro passions.

I certainly do love my Model B Beeb though - with its MMC SD solution - but also enjoy loading up the old classics on tape via the ANF03 data recorder - IMHO, the best data recorder EVER built in terms of reliability and uber solid construction - I've had mine the best part of 30 odd years!

My fave games? Gotta be ELITE but also Zalaga - quality arcade action - and Dogfight by Opus - is there a better 2up WW1 fighter game?!

Anyhow, I'm collecting Acornsoft titles at the mo, so if anyone else out there ever fancies doing the odd swap or just wants to talk Beeb stuff then do drop me a line.

Cheers, folks.

Baz.

Welcome Baz, nice collection, I haven't seen one like that since I worked in a computer shop in th 80s.
The only other 2up flying game I know of is J-BiPlane by our own jbnbeeb.

Once more, thank you so much for the feedback and comments, guys.

Yes, Tricky - it's a great Dogfight game is the Opus version - I must put a clip up of me having a bash but I think it's just a 2player game...I'm not sure if you can fight against a computer opponent?

Aye, Rich - you can't beat having the originals as i just love the artwork and experiencing the feel of our heyday...the glorious Eighties and the saving up, going down to your local computer shop and like a kid picking out their favourite sweets, scanning the shelves for the next great game for your micro!

That's how it was for many of us as we took our purchases home and couldn't wait to be "beamed into the future" or blast away on the latest shoot em up etc!

GREAT DAYS, guys!

Baz.

Welcome to the forum fellow Hullensian! Although you would never know I hailed from there anymore now my accent has been rounded to a more ‘generic northern’ after years living in the south and working in London. :)

Lovely collection of Acornsoft tapes you’ve got there! Keep up the good work, gotta catch’em all. I have an Oric-1 and many Atari machines as well. Basically I’m a sucker for anything with a 6502 chip in it.

Enjoy your time here!

Once more, thank you very much for all the warm welcomes, fellow Beebsters and Acorn nuts!

I hardly know where to start what with invites to gan over to York to check out Atari Falcons and Hullers having moved "darn sarf" but still proud of their Hull roots and greets from the East of Hull (I grew up in Withernsea with my Model B! Yep, someone has to!!).

Thanks, fellas.

Am really touched by the warm greets and will aim to become more of a regular on here as I can see you all seem to be extremely friendly, helpful and probably full of more Beeb knowledge than you can fit on an SD card whereas my know-how would easily fit on...

...half a 5.25" disk!

Cheers again, folks and thank you to everyone for giving me a shout - it's very touching!

Baz,
(Oric, Atari and very definitely Acorn and Auntie Beeb nut!)

PS. Yrrah2 - I do have some Beeb disks too - I will upload some pics of the rest of my Beeb software library later - these originals are lovely to have but they do take up a lot of space, don't they? Especially when you also collect Oric, Atari, ZX81, Speccy and Amstrad tapes and bits too - I am in serious need of knocking into next door's attic!!

HAHA!

You're probably right, Yrrah2 (where did you get your handle from. by the way?!), as I would probably need THREE extra attics to really give my Beeb/Acorn, Atari and Oric collections a proper bit of "breathing space" ! LOL. :D

OK, some more pics of some of my disks - there are more but it's all the raking out, locating, displaying and then putting them away again but these are some nice, varied examples.

ALSO - I picked up a box of Elk tapes tonight from my good retro pal Diablo68 - I'm not sure if he's on here but he does appear on many other retro forums - I will send a pic of these another day.

Cheers to you all and happy Bee-Beeping!

Baz.

In the 80's you had a cartoonist in the papers with very good political drawings. His name was Harry and signed his drawings with Yrrah.
Nice beeb collection and in good shape as well.
