Hi from a former Atom owner

Post by Greyheart » Sat Aug 11, 2018 7:55 am

Hi and thanks for accepting my request :)

I live in the UK and am a lifelong computer enthusiast and IT engineer.

My first computer was an Acorn Atom, which I bought from a small computer shop on the Edgware Road, London in the early 80s, when it was first released in the UK. I was 14 or 15 at the time and my dad, who built his own hobby computer, complete with toggle switches for programming, helped me out with money.

I remember taking it home and being amazed at the things you could do with this very versatile machine. After exhausting the games, and I think breakout was one of my favorites at the time, I started experimenting with Basic and 6502 assembly, making ball bounce round the screen using only assembly language.

I went on to own a C64, Amiga 500 and numerous, self built, PC's. I also owned a BBC with a robotic arm for a while but that was many years after its heyday. I have reproduced some of those memories through emulation and have a working C64 and Amiga library on my PC and Raspberry PI and now I am looking to refamiliarise with my first machine, the Atom, hopefuly through the Atomulator.

Look forward to talking to you all more, especially in the Atom section!
