Post by emeu1 » Mon Apr 09, 2018 5:15 pm

Hello all,

I'd like to introduce myself as a new member of this forum.
My name is Erik and I live in the Netherlands.
I've been reading this forum for a while now and found it time to join.
A little bit of history.

In the early eighties, the school I was at, got ten Philips P2000C home computers.
A teacher started a computer club which I joined purely based on my interest for electronics.
I hadn't seen, let alone worked with, a computer myself at that time.
All club members got a "Learning BASIC" book handed out to become familiar with BASIC and the P2000C.
Only problem was, Philips hadn't delivered manuals with the P2000C so the book we got was written for the Exidy Sorcerer . . .

Programming fascinated me so much that my parents gave me a ZX81.
Two years later, my interest in programming had only grown and therefor I decided to follow a higher information science education to become a software engineer.
A friend of mine decided to follow the same "educational route" and therefor he and his brother bought a BBC model B.
I was stunned as I saw the possibilities of the BBC compared to my ZX81.
The BBC was to expensive for me so I bought an Electron.
A Plus 1 and E2P were added not much later and, to save money, I designed and build my own user port and 32K SWRAM.
Both could be fitted in the interface slots of the Plus 1.
I used my Electron, Acornsoft VIEW and ISO-Pascal, intensively during the first two years of my education.
Later on, as probably most of you, I moved to MS-DOS, Windows and Unix.
At some point, I sold the Electron, a decision I now regret.

Approximately a year ago, I needed a Raspberry PI for a project I had in mind.
As I was unfamiliar with the PI at that moment, I dived into it and came across the PI 2nd Processor project for the BBC.
It got my intention and, after reading it, I decided to buy myself a BBC model B.
After some months I found a nice one with issue 7 board on eBay UK and bought it.
Of course I built the PI 2nd processor and, because I hate having my desk cluttered with several devices, I installed the PI 2nd processor inside the BBC's casing.
Since then I've been expanding my model B further.
RetroClinics DataCentre and 1770 Disk Interface, Rob C.'s VideoNuLA and Boobip's 32K SWRAM and three 64K EEPROMs are now all installed inside the original casing.
Last week I bought an Electron with Plus 1, original Acorn "Elk" data recorder and several books to complete my collection.

I'm still busy "freshing up my memory" and hope I can sometimes add something useful to discussions on this forum.

Best regards,

Erik

@tricky,

thanks. We'll see if I "fit in".
It's been more than 30 years since I used the Electron on a almost daily basis.
Will take "some" time to remember what I used to know about the Acorn MOS, programming in BASIC, Pascal etc.

Best regards,

Erik
