Hello from Vancouver BC, Canada!

Post by MrEe » Wed Dec 20, 2017 6:18 pm

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a BBC Micro from Ebay and had it shipped to Canada (!)

I'm a British expat who grew up in the UK and my first foray with computers was with the ZX Spectrum and then BBC B in the early 80's. This propelled me into a successful programming career and I can only thank the team vision at Acorn for opening the doorway for many of us like this. 34 years later, I'm diving back into what I think was one of the best machines ever made - I still marvel at the engineering prowess these guys had. BBC Basic/6502 bliss! Also, I'm really interested in getting the emulated co-processor running using the Raspberry PI to work on some Z80 projects.

All good fun, hope to see you around the forums sometime..

Hi Mr Ee, Just noticed that you are in Vancouver. I am there too! Just recently met up with KarateEd who lives in Squamish, and we had a fun time with our Beebs. I'm also interested in Raspberry Pi projects, and anything related to educational s/w (I'm a Primary teacher who first used a BBC in school in 1982! Paul Ps I did send you a PM, but apparently we need to post 25 times before we can use PM here!

Hi klintworth,

Wow - someone with a Beeb in Vancouver (other than me of course) - would love to connect up. I've been offline for quite a while so only saw the message now. I guess I need to be a little more active before being able to PM. Will connect with you once I have accumulated enough "credits"

A belated welcome.

You can get PM enabled early if you persuade an admin you are a real person :D

Snap! Well, replace the ZX Spectrum with ZX 81 and then it's snap!

Welcome to the forums; I've been a bit distracted myself recently but edging some more retro-time into my life.

I'm not sure that I am; let me check - yes - fork in the leg works every time :D

I'll plead my case - thanks!

Welcome MrEE from Vancouver.

This is Ed in Squamish and just saying it would be wonderful if we can all meet up together for some Beeb goodness.

A bit of history. I am a Canadian that lived in Iceland for 5-1/2 years and during the last 12 or so months there had a Beeb. I absolutely loved the machine, the way it worked, what you could do on it and so on. I never really had it long enough to get into it in depth but am endeavouring to do so now.

Paul and I have now had 3 meetings and it would be wonderful to have a 4th with 3 members. We've done some hardware stuff and have fixed one or two things, broken mostly nothing and are quite happy poking about the machines learning as we go and applying what we do know to getting things working the way we want.

Anyway, Paul has posted the next meeting time, one week this coming Saturday so hopefully you can join us at Paul's home in Vancouver. We've been splitting duties as to where the meetings will be and now it would be 2 in Vancouver and 1 in Squamish.....

You are welcome to email me at karateed at shaw dot ca if you wish then we can get a circle of emails going until you have permission to do messages through this mail system. That way we can exchange information and see if the coming meeting is possible also.

Ed...... :-)
Ed...... :-)

3 working Beebs, 1 RetroClinic Master, 1 normal Master, 1 A3010, 1 Pi2 RISC OS, 2 broken but to be worked on Beeb Motherboards
