30 Years On...

Post by Andrewcee » Fri Nov 10, 2017 10:13 am

How can it be? Some 30 years have passed since I last fired up my Beeb! Spectrum too, and both worked first time. Let's try that on a modern-day PC, shall we?!

A month later... I've acquired a Master 128, got a 3.5" disk set up working (thanks Martin), changed the psu caps in my Beeb (stunk for days when they went) and, I've a Pi copro running. I've even fitted our friend's datacentre set up into my Beeb, although still using floppies! My 80s Microvitec Cub is proving more stubborn, although my own-built prom programmer is working again. I've now learnt how to use a Turbo MMC, create Beeb disk images on the PC, and managed to run CP/M for first time ever on a BBC machine. What's next?

All good fun!! Anything useful I can do with all these new/old toys? Run Oracle 7 perhaps, or Dec Rdb??!

Welcome. :D

Why do I keep collecting Acorn gear? I'm going to need a considerably bigger man-cave. :?

Thanks folks for the warm welcome. Realised how rusty my 6502 assembler skills have become when working on my prom programmer. Great way to get going again.

Been great getting a 3.5" disk solution working with help from Martin (albeit been unable to get DFS beyond 2.24 on mos 3.2 working) and my STL256 board running reliably at 4meg for the first time. Quite a revelation running a Pi copro. Up and running with CP/M and Z80 basic for the first time ever, be interesting to get Basic 5 (I think?) running on an Arm copro on the Pi - all for just £5 and a bit of learning.

More play times to come.
