Torch Computers Ltd

Post by jondane » Thu Aug 13, 2020 4:07 pm

My name is Jon Dane.

In 1990, my then company, Control Universal Ltd of Cambridge, purchased the stock and the rights to the name of Torch Computers Ltd when it entered receivership.

Since that time, Control Universal Ltd also failed, and in a new company we also purchased most of the stock and the rights to the name. A little later we renamed our company Torch Computers Ltd. Over the last 30 years we have mostly concentrated on the Intel/Microsoft sector but have continued to store the old Torch stock.

I am now disposing of that stock, which includes 23 Torch Z80 second processors. I have also found a brand new and unused model TFZ, which is a twin floppy disk pack in a monitor stand with a Z80 second processor. Included in the kit are a pair of floppies and an EPROM.

It seems to me that the Z80 second processors that I am selling would be more useful if they included copies of those disks and of the EPROM. I do not have the means or the skill to make such copies and I wonder if anyone in the forum can help?

The disks are:

Torch BBC BASIC for Z80 and Torch Standard Utilities on 5.25” floppies.

The EPROM is: MCP V2.02 on a Hitachi HN4827128G-30 chip.

Also in the pack were the Z80 second processor installation guide and the Torch Reference Card. I have copied these and made PDFs, which I will happily send to anyone who requests them.

Hi Jon, and welcome.

I'd be interested in knowing whether you have any technical manuals and schematics for the Graduate and Atlas/Neptune boards.

There's been discussion on the various MCP versions over at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17923 which you may be able to add to.

We've never seen MCP 2.02.

Welcome! :D

It's good to know that the old stock has survived for so long. Hopefully there will be people who will put it to good use.

Welcome John. I think I bought a Graduate from you on eBay the other day :D

If you want a bunch of EPROMs programmed to go along with the Z80 boards, I can help.

Hope you enjoy it here.

Welcome to the Forum, Jon . . . I hope you stay around to enjoy what we do here.

Let me check my DD Disc stock - I'll get back to you if I have enough. I can also do EPROMs.

Dave H.

Edit: Yup! Plenty of DD discs. PM sent.

Thanks for checking, the disks are already imaged but the manual may need scanning.
