Hello from Keighley.

Post by DavidATK » Sat Oct 05, 2019 6:43 pm

Hi all,

Just saying hello.

I'm in the process of bringing my Master back to life after it has been in the loft for around ten year.
Things are not going to plan, so I may need your assistance in the future.

Dave

Hello Dave :)

I might make a subforum called the Davearium where only people called Dave are allowed to post and the rest of us must look on as if through glass... :D

Hi Dave,

I'm also originally from the Keighley area, a bit further towards Skipton. Keen to hear your story, did you ever attend the Keighley Computer Club at the Tech College in the 80's?

Cheers,
Nigel

Hiya Dave (and Nigel),

former Keighley (now Silsden) lad here also, great to hear from you guys, hope you get your master up and running Dave, great machines. Have you seen PoP? It's worth owning a master just to play that.

What is this computer club you mention Nigel? I feel I've missed out! I would've loved that in the 80's when I was in my mid teens to early twenties but never heard of it. Did they have any good kit?

I didn't go to Kly Tech, I went to the ITEC in Bfd at 16, a mistake in hindsight, should've gone to college and uni but the Kly Tech interviewer was extremely negative and put me off. Oh well...

Cheers,
John.

It was a gathering every Weds evening, 7-9pm, that was advertised in Acorn User small ads. Basically BBC owners meeting up with their kit to share knowledge, tips, software, etc. It had nothing to do with Keighley Tech, it was just somewhere we could hire a room with plenty of power sockets.

I was in Glusburn at the time so if you'd have been a few miles closer then would've gone to the same school, South Craven. I used to know the Silsden pubs well, and still visit Steeton Hall for special occasions when I'm up there.

Thanks for all the encouraging welcomes.

I didn't know about the Keighley Computer club. But during the early eighties I was working abroad or generally away from Keighley.
I did do a couple of courses at the college, Got my Amateur Radio license via a course there.

For a while I collected lots of old computers, still got a loft full that I need to sort out.
I used the Master for a while, mostly to perform simple data acquisition. But I managed to fry the chip associated with this, and never got around to replacing it. I do have a manual on order that will enable me to sort out this problem.

Before I acquired the Master, when I was at the Poly', they had BBCs but I had an Amstrad PCW8256. So creating programs at home to run there was a bit of a problem.

I'll get back to you when I have something to show.

Dave.

P.s. Sorry, don't do games

well, fit new capacitors. Got the manual.

It runs, But I now need to sort out the configuration etc.

And maybe get a new logic probe.

Catch y'all on an appropriate thread.

Dave.
