Hello!

Post by crivett95 » Tue Aug 07, 2018 6:28 pm

Hi, my name is Chris and I'm from the west coast of Scotland!

I'm too young to have come across any Acorn/BBC kit from back in the day, however my first encounter with a beeb was when I started primary school around 2000/2001. We had a lone BBC Micro Model B, the last one left in the school in our class room. We played some sort of maths game that involved trains on it if I remember correctly!

I have quite a large collection of old computers, workstations and video game systems at this point, a lot of which are older than I am! In terms of Acorn gear, I have one working BBC Model B and two non working ones that I am going to hopefully have up and running again soon. If successful my goal is to run a 3 station Econet with them providing I can source all the parts! I'd love to add a RISC PC to my collection at some point as well. In my working BBC I currently have a 128K SRAM module, 64K EEPROM module and an MMC interface using the latest MMFS rom which is programmed onto the EEPROM module. I also just recently picked up a Raspberry Pi Co Processor kit and have managed to run the Tube enhanced version of Elite and boot Acorn CP/M from the MMC interface so far.

Looking forward to being a part of the community! :D

Welcome Chris - 2001 is pretty late to still have a beeb in the classroom! :D Econet should be within your grasp, and you'll certainly have help getting the other machines up-and-running here :)

Welcome, Chris! Good luck getting the model B’s to work. An econet network is a nice project! :D

I realise you didn't ask, but if your game was TRAINS from the Microprimer collection — a classroom favourite when I was in primary school, slightly longer ago — then it's on BBC PD disc 159 which you can download from http://8bs.com/catalogue.htm.

Welcome Chris -

As a fairly new member of the forum myself, I've had great help from the folks at StarDot and they are always ready to help (even if its an eye roll as I post my latest help request! )

I have an Econet running after much help and advice, so happy to help and start giving for a change
