Maplin are back ...
Online ordering only ...
Not sure if this is still a viable company anymore, but somebody seems to have enough faith to give it a go.

They did go into administration. Not being able to find a buyer, the administrators sold everything off, including the name. Someone bought the name and logo. A while ago they set up a simple holding website and started giving prizes away as a marketing campaign. Now they have launched their proper web site.
So it’s not the same company.

They do not sell all the 'interesting' stuff like components and displays. It is just a commercial 'box shifter'.

Re: Maplin are back ...
Indeed, they seem to be selling all the things I'd never buy from the previous company.
Ah well. Best of luck with their target market...

Only in the same way Woolworths came back as an online only outfit that everyone forgot about in five minutes flat. Only used them for distress purchases and killing time.

Killing time?

That’s what eBay is for....

There's a token nod to the hobbyist with some Raspberry Pi and Arduino kits, but it's a sad state of affairs when you can't purchase a soldering iron or multimeter from them.
Hopefully they'll grow their range over time, but I expect eBay/Amazon will continue to be my source of electrical bits and bobs. Cricklewood Electronics are quite good too - used their mail order service when fixing up an old valve amplifier.
There was a rumour Peter Jones was involved in this new venture, but I understand that was 'fake news'.
