I have no idea about the specs beyond the fact that you can use orange :D but you can certainly tweak the MODE 7 palette using the RobC's wonderful add-on.
What's the specs of the available palette etc? I assume it's just capable of remapping the 8 colours using a look up table? In which case most of my simple recoloured pics should work fine.
It's surprising how much difference just subtly tweaking the palette can make to a picture really.

You can map all 7 colours in MODE 7 (not black) to anything from a 12-bit palette so 4096 possible colours.

Non-Teletext examples: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13545

There's a small palette utility so you could save out an updated Teletext 2.X palette file for others to enjoy. :)

I've been loving these pictures.

Has anyone created compressed versions of these and shoved them on a disc or multiple discs to create a slideshow?

If not, I'm quite happy to try to do so, but just wanted to avoid duplication of work if they'd already been converted.

I don't know how many will fit on a disc as due to the dithering they won't compress all that much, but if there are 4 sides to play with they may all fit. The LDPIC and SVPIC routines are freely available but is there a better option? Is there any Windows software that can do the conversion rather than trying to LOAD the files onto BeebEm?

Failing that, what is required to use the DataCentre (is it simply a case of accessing the files directly on drive 5) or a MMC type device? I only have the DataCentre so I wouldn't know what capabilities the MMC type devices have. The one benefit of the DataCentre approach is that adding new pictures when pixelblip creates them could be easier.
I'm writing a game where you can change your character from a Wizard to a monkey to a cat.

Well, Imogen that!

I've been loving the pictures too. I thought they might make a good wallpaper, but I should have realised it would clash with all the icons on my desktop. It's attached anyway.

As a side effect of this I "normalised" all the pictures into the same resolution and bit depth of PNG file, and also made MODE 2 versions of them all. A couple of the early pictures aren't quite pixel-perfect because they've been converted from shrunken JPEGs. A zip with all these files is attached too.

Edit: btw, this doesn't include the MODE 7 pictures.
