Acornsoft Loaders

Post by elk1984 »

I'm trying to move some classic games to run from my NAS (using a Sprow Ethernet adapter) and I'm having a few problems. Some the disks on BBCMicro.co.uk have ? in the filename, which is of course blocked on Windows filesystems (and incidentally crash DFS Explorer if you try an extract them). Fine, I'll just rename the file to something allowable.

Trouble is, with some of the disks, e.g. Hopper, I can run the game from *HOPP2 (where HOPP2 is the renamed version of HOPP?) but cannot change the BASIC loader to run that file. Can anyone help out? The Acornsoft loaders are obviously getting the filenames from somewhere, but I can't fathom where.

For Hopper, click on "Display" next to $.HOPPER, and then click on the "Hex dump" tab:

Or, in this case, just use the Play It Again Sam re-release:
