JetPac NuLA refuel

Post by Dave Footitt » Fri Sep 18, 2020 10:06 pm

Not quite sure where to put this one, so I've posted here - please move if I'm in the wrong place.

A few weeks ago at a developer chat I showed a NuLA version of JetPac I'd been working on. I've finally tidied it all up, and version 1.2 is attached here. Source and graphics here. Enjoy!

UPDATE - Now works on BBC Master (Thanks Rob!)

This is excellent =D> :D

Looks so much better than the original and I love the loading screen. Great work.

Post a screen grab - I'd be interested to see what it looks like!

That looks awesome and I will be playing it tomorrow.
I do prefer the gameplay of the speccy version though!

Looks great, well done both of you, now if you could just slow the aliens down I might be able to play it ;)

Looks brilliant.
Unfortunately Jetpac doesn't work on a master, luckily I recently bought a multi os from retroclinic so I just stuck it in B mode and off I went.

This is INCREDIBLE!

A Master-compatible version of Jet-Pac was posted here btw ... is there any way the "Refuel" updates could be appended to the M128-happy version?

The graphics are awesome on this! Its runs nicely on my Master in OS1.20 mode. :D

I’m still rubbish at it though.

So - the million dollar question. Which game is next for this treatment? [-o<

Thanks for the kind words chaps.

I'll take a look at that Master compatability when I get the urge, I had no idea it didn't work on a Master :(

Yes would be good to see a few more NuLA games done, it was fun to do!

Here's a quick hack that contains the B, B+ and Master 128 versions and will automatically select which one to run.

I wish I were better at this as it's amazing and definitely the best 8-bit version by a mile!

EDIT: Removed my hacked version as Dave's official build above is better!

Ace thanks Rob!

Any chance you could send a PR or email the sources so I can add them to the repo properly?

Can do but all I did was apply the HacMan fix to the game code on the M128 and B+ to create the modified binaries and then hack separate copies of the loader to call the appropriate version.

If you can point me at the repo, I can probably come up with a simpler version that patches the code on the fly.

I've also got a version that changes the score font on the Master. With a bit of work, it could probably be extended to the B and B+.

EDIT: Now see that the repo is linked in the first post #-o

Thanks Rob - I've put the Master support code in, the new font for the score and updated the repo.

Edited my first post above to include the latest build.
