Wow, a definite pint in order there I think! Even with infinite lives I found the game so frustrating I had to add invulnerability. I spent a lot of time on the game in my youth though so it was nice to finally see those extra caverns!
If you poke a new starting room into the SIM3 file, you'll also discover that the title screen (where the spaceman explodes) is room 1.

Also, the normal starting room contains the text for the "SCORE" and "Carrying" strings so, if you start elsewhere, they only get drawn when you visit that room. :)

Blundered my way into rediscovering the glitch by using the cheat version of Sim for the Beeb from STH:

I don't seem to be able to pick up this sim:

Although I've also not found a use for the manikin or the iron bar? I noticed the manikin does attach to the breakout bat, might've possibly been useful if I wasn't invulnerable??

I assumed the iron bar was to be used to block the breakout bat.

Both simarils in the well should be collectable. Does having the mannequin in there mess the game up?

Which version of the game are you playing? BBC disc or BBC tape?

BBC disk image (my invulnerability cheat on I posted earlier in this thread)

The "manikin" thing seems to make no difference, I wonder what the intended use of both those objects was?

I've attached a BeebEm state file, I wonder if my poke has enabled me to do something I shouldn't?

I have a vague memory that the mannequin has to be dropped on a button or pressure-pad to hold a door open. Or something. (Could be completely wrong.)

I always assumed that the mannequin would be used to distract enemies that chase you, but I've never seen that happen.

It's useful on the screen below and left of "Wot no adverts?" to block the fast bouncing ball.

I've been trying to automate application of patches and fixes.

The monster that chases you in the warren appears to work properly now - thanks, Snuggsy187!

It looks like the rabbit gets confused if you drop the carrot in the wrong place.

With invulnerability, you can just dump anything in the reactor - now where did I put that iron bar...

Good stuff davidb :D

Had a vague look at getting a patched Elk version (with no cheats !), but keep breaking the ASM ! Now, where did I store my original ASM......!

One question - with the 'Wot no adverts' fix in place, do we think that it makes other screens a little too easy ? Maybe a check is needed to see if you're in the C4 room.....

Had a go at speeding it up a bit by turning off ADC channels and the keyboard. This seemed to break the % complete check (weird JSR &991F call to print the stat). As I say, I've broke it so would have to start again (strangely, there's a lot of self modifying stuff and JSR vectors in the room data, so fitting new code in is a bit tricky)........

It's just so good to see that monster in the warrens ! :D

I suppose slowing it down does make some screens too easy but I could imagine the rabbit warren would also be really tough with the monster chasing you.

Anyway, I've attached two UEFs for the Electron version: one with the missing data, enemy slowdown and missing monster fix, and the other with an added invulnerability cheat. :)

That's true, I guess the rabbit warren baddie would be a bit aggressive !

Good work davidb ! :D

Just for interest's sake, here's a video showing invulnerability: Sim on the Acorn Electron (invulnerability)
The game is running faster than normal due to the configuration of the emulator.

I've been having another play of Sim, and I now realise that any memory I might have had of finishing the game BITD without using cheats must have been pure fantasy. "Rock hard" doesn't begin to describe the difficulty-level of this game...

The other thing is, does anyone know how to make a patch that turns that bloody tune off?!

Just turn the sound off completely. The only other noises, as far as I can tell, are the jetpack and the bang when it explodes. :)
