Re: Music in Electron games

I forgot about Psycastria! I wonder if any of the other Partis games had good music.

Music in Electron games

I've been thinking about music in Electron games and wondered if there are any particularly good examples of it that I haven't heard (or can't remember). Other than the following, can anyone recommend any Electron games with good music? The ones I can recall: Rubble Trouble (instructions/loader) Dra...

Firetrack does tricks with the ULA, so that would be worth trying.

Electron/Micro User alumni

I found this article about Roland Waddilove a while back and thought people might be interested in reading it: Roland Waddilove: Geek of the Week . I searched the archives to see if it had already been mentioned here, but I could only find a locked thread in the old forum archives asking about peopl...

Re: Play Blackpool, 3/4 May (+Garrettimus' UK visit!)

In 1983, Sinclair, the manufacturer of both the ZX80 and ZX81 computers, whose hardware and software were summarily copied by Microdigital, has filed a lawsuit in the Brazilian court for firmware copyright infringement. At that time, prior to the National ICT Policy of 1984 (which lead to the offic...

Re: Play Blackpool, 3/4 May (+Garrettimus' UK visit!)

Looks fine to me, though "importation" should probably just be "import" and "in the form o cassette tapes" should be "in the form of cassette tapes". :) All in all, a very nicely written and interesting piece. It makes me wonder if it would have led to cheaper and more reliable Sinclair products if ...

Re: Advice on Arc game programming

One of the libraries/modules that I wish I'd paid more attention to is GameSuite, which was used to create Asylum and Oddball. See Acorn Arcade for more information about those. Thanks for the link to the Scorpius article, Zarchos. That was definitely interesting to read for someone like me who wish...

Re: Appalling 'glory to the US' journalism about ARM

I only skimmed the article. :) It's a bit unfocused but I think it covers most of the things people need to know about ARM. Now, the Wikipedia article about RISC is something of a different story. I would have thought that a paragraph in the history section about the mid-1980s would have mentioned A...

jsbeeb looks pretty good so far. I was most impressed with your (and RichTW's) Miracle emulator back in the day, so I'm interested to see how this one develops. Any chance of a jselectron, too? :D

Re: Hi all

Shadow RAM was invented and patented by myself and David Barnett, licenced to the manufacturer of an add-on board of the BBC Micro Model B, then taken by Acorn for the Model B+ and Master without credit, permission or payment. I'll start a thread in one of the other forums about this, if that's OK....

Re: Hi all

The Archimedes sound chip was a copy of my Music 500/0's output stage, but with a serious flaw that crippled it, sound-quality-wise. Acorn had to do that copy by reverse engineering rather than with my help, because at that time I was D-noticed at Acorn over the shadow RAM patent fracas. Once that ...

Re: Hi all

You know, it's not unfair to say that my life wouldn't be what it is today without the BBC Micro so I'd like to say thanks ... Well cheers Paul, but I have to say on the hardware side I take credit only for a tiny part - the design of the sound firmware, done in time spare from my real job as Acorn...

Re: Wanted - high quality game-poster scans

Ah, yes, Impact Posters. We had a few of those around, and they should all be somewhere in the collection of stuff accumulated over the last couple of decades. I haven't seen the Elite poster for a while, though, but it's hopefully somewhere in the "collection". :) Though they're not from the same s...
