Re: List of nerdy documentaries and docu-dramas

If you're interested in plain interviews, there are some on YouTube with people from the early Acorn days: Steve Furber (via the Centre for Computing History) Andy Hopper - there's a two part interview with him starting here as well, which I thought was very interesting Hermann Hauser - despite the ...

Re: US$200 REWARD FOR PETDFS ROM for Procyon IEEE-488

The Procyon ROM you're looking for isn't the one on this page, is it?

Aside: I meant to link to this site a couple of days ago. I hope it's useful for people when they go on ROM hunting expeditions. :)

Re: Looking for Electron Hidden Gems to Play

Everyone (read: me!) knows about the obvious classics on the Elk. Exile, Elite, Chuckie Egg, blah, blah! They're great games but they've been played and talked to death. Can you guys recommend some hidden gems that I can try out? Maybe even some recent homebrew (is there any?) if it's any good? You...

Re: How do I load new screens to Repton

Both Repton 3 and Repton Infinity support custom levels. Of course, the Repton Infinity levels can be for a different Repton-like games, not just for the standard Repton game rules.

I wonder if anyone's modified Repton or Repton 2 to produce new levels for those.

Re: Best way to backup RISC pc hd

Just make sure you back up the files on the SparQ drives to something else. I had a SparQ drive back in the day and it suddenly stopped being able to read its own cartridges. Fortunately, Cumana/Cannon were nice enough to recover the data and put it onto CD-ROMs for me - the very least they could do...

Re: Best way to backup RISC pc hd

I bought an IDE-SD card adapter from ADPL (as described here). It was arguably the easiest way for me to get hold of one that could be "guaranteed" to work in an A7000+, or at least give me grounds for complaint if it didn't. ;)

Re: memories of acorn computers as a company

I only have two direct memories of Acorn from the time they were trading. The first is those letters I wrote to them between 1991 and about 1994. As a rule, all my enquiries were answered promptly, courteously, efficiently and authoritatively and it was a delight to receive correspondence from them...

Re: memories of acorn computers as a company

I know there was this reputation the BBC had for being a computer for posh families but I didn't think that label necessarily applied to the Archimedes. The pricing was a real problem, however. I'm sure that many people were waiting for the sub-£500 home/games machine that only appeared when the A30...

Re: memories of acorn computers as a company

It would be nice to hear some memories of the company from people who worked there. :) Anyway, as a fan of the 8-bit and 32-bit machines, I found the company to be very frustrating to follow, especially near the end when they seemed to be desperate to jump on any bandwagon that came near (TV on dema...

Re: A3000 - ropey mouse, RF output issue

We have a non-working A3000 but, when it was working, we had a non-working mouse for a while. The issue, if I remember correctly, was that the cable had become worn internally at the point where it entered the mouse. The fix was to unsolder the connections inside the mouse, cut the cable short to re...

Re: Any more PRES re-births..?

My own stalled efforts to use flash memory cartridges means that I'll probably pick up some RAM/ROM cartridges at some point, though I would still need to find a decent way of writing ROM images to them. Are not the ABR support commands Ok for this? E.g. rload, loadrom etc. Or were you thinking of ...
