Re: Electrobots - new game for Elk/Beeb/Master

After finishing monochrome Elementum, I wanted to create a game in MODE 5. I have no idea where this is going but I am drawing tiles, objects, enemies, etc. I'm thinking about a multi screen world with puzzles and secrets. Think Citadel. This is an impression of 6 such screens stitched together: wo...

Re: Modern computers are awful - What would you do better?

With Windows 10 you do need to press the Windows key before pressing the PRINT SCREEN key. Crikey! I've been doing it wrong all these years. I NEVER use the Windows key, ever. Print Screen works just fine by itself, as does Alt Gr-Print Screen. As far as I'm aware, if you just do PrtScn it captures...

I don't have the answer but you could use a standard algorithm then punch some random holes in the walls.
Yeah, that seems to be the direction I'm leaning towards :)

This webpage has maze generators in various (most in fact) languages. Specifically, there’s a version for BBC Basic for Windows and one for Qbasic so I’m pretty sure you’ll get what you want here.
What a great site! Thanks for that!

Acornsoft Maze random maze generation

Hi, I'm trying to create a game similar to Acornsoft Maze but on another platform, and I'd like to be able to generate random 16x16 mazes in the same sort of way, i.e. so there is not a single path through the maze but multiple paths, but it still having dead ends, and I haven't found an algorithm t...

Re: High Score Challenge S13 - R5 - Professor McBrolly

Alright, I managed to complete it. Got most of the way through the second run of levels, then finally got killed off by that annoying buggy level that kills you immediately on entering (so lost two lives to that in total). And as I still can't get back up on the trampoline on the level with the two...

Re: Games with problems

Pharaoh's Curse by H-Soft is a game that doesn't play on bbcmicro.co.uk (Well, it does, but you have to use jsbeebng rather than jsbeeb) Is there any way it can be fixed? The version posted in the archive request thread under Disc027 works in BeebEm, and sort of works in JsBeeb with some screen inte...

Re: Repton Overture Finally Finished

HI , I've started making the original Repton 1 levels for Repton Overture - I just liked the idea of having the original game built into this update. If anyone's interested in a copy let me know. Or has anyone already done this? Going to stick in Repton 3 levels too once done with Repton 1. Sounds ...

I loved this game back in the day, preferred it to Citadel. I remember mapping it out with felt-tip pens on sheets of paper sellotaped together!

I remember a great sense of achievement when I completed it!

Great review!

Re: Why was Repton so loved by BBC users yet so disliked by the Commies?

Repton was released in 1985 when a lot of BBC Micro games were still pretty terrible. On the BBC Micro it had full screen scrolling, huge graphics, very nice music and the animation of the main character was particularly well done - most non-ported BBC Micro games back then suffered from "prog...

Re: Why was Repton so loved by BBC users yet so disliked by the Commies?

Repton 3 got a panning at least: https://archive.org/details/zzapp_64_issue_023_600dpi/page/n21 I can't stand Repton. Compared to the Boulder Dashes, I do indeed find them contrived, clumsy and needlessly involved. Later on from Zzap, Commodore Format used to mock the games as most of us really did...

Hi, I was trying to play Repton Thru Time from the archive, and I had a problem when I tried to load a different scenario, e.g. "Now". Kept getting error "Disk Fault 18 at 00/00" This happens if I try and play online, and also if I download the file and try and play it through Be...
