Re: Yet Another Acorn Atom Repair

There should be a video signal regardless whether the processor works or not. The 6847 will read from its memory and display that. If the memory is not cleared by the reset routine then it holds the well known garbage and you should see that. With a scope you can start at pin 28 of the 6847 and foll...

For sale: Acorn Electron WiFi cartridges

I think I am ready to ship the first five boards (however, one is reserved at the moment). The boards will be shipped (almost) completely build and tested. A printed user manual will be included. The cartridge is ready for usage but the LED's are not mounted so you can choose in which orientation yo...

Thank you all for your attention and for organizing this session again. It was a pleasure to attend and listen to all those Acorn(soft) people. There was a lot of (to me) unknown Acorn history.

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

Thanks for the feedback on my presentation (mostly by PM and during the ABUG). I have released version 0.17. The most significant changes are: * rewrite of the driver #13 download handling (mostly used by WGET) * added the *DISCONNECT command (might be handy when a TCP connection is not closed becau...

That's nice to know. IHMO it's time to add the missing capacitor, build a minimal Atom configuration and check the voltages. And don't forget to check the resistors R39, 40 and 41.

I wanted to use the UEF loader software for my wifi project. And as I demonstrated in my session this morning, it is already implemented. I can download an UEF file from a webserver into my Elk's paged ram and use it like a tape. Thanks to Martin for sharing his UPCFS code.

Re: Programming a delay in assembly language

You're right Martin, your code is universal for all 6502 systems and can easily be ported to other processors as well. I just wanted to add my comments to mention the fact that interrupts will disturb this way of timing and they are often overlooked. Like I did on my ElkWifi project.... For a game t...

Re: Programming a delay in assembly language

I think the osbyte delay is more precisely. Both routines will be interupted by interrupts and the first routine is definitively delayed by them. The second method has an independent time source so it might less suffer from the interrupts. Although I didn't compare them on my Electron. Speaking of t...

Good spotting Kees! It also looks like resistors R40 and R39 hit each other on the blank leads. That will also cause troubles. I had that once in an Atom.

Re: Yet Another Acorn Atom Repair

If you want to test the 6502 in the Atom you could build the nop generator: http://6502.org/mini-projects/nop-gen/nop-gen.htm Remove all memory from the Atom and place this in an eprom socket. The cpu will see the opcode #EA and do nothing. The address bus will behave like 16 square wave generators....

Re: Yet Another Acorn Atom Repair

I don't expect that your beeb will break if you put the Atom 6502 in it. Did I send you a 6502A? If so, you can place it in your beeb to test it. Can you also post some clear high res picture of your Atom in the current state? The best way to troubleshoot this is starting to check the power at each ...

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

I have modified the read response routine for the CIPSEND function. It works a bit different now. The previous version depended on three blocks of data coming from the ESP8266. These blocks were separated by a (short) time interval. In some situations this went wrong because of a too short time out ...

The Atom-in-PC that I designed in 1993 goes into the ISA slot: http://www.acornatom.nl/hardware/atinpc/atinpc.html
On my first ABUG visit in Bolton I demonstrated it. Arcadian managed to organize a PC with ISA slot and DVD drive

Re: BBC B+/Master graphics upgrade?

Just an interrupt: There is somebody somewhere on one of the threads experimenting with building an external graphics system. If it's the same one I had a fiddle with it at an ABUG, it was connected to an Atom. Essentially you treat it as a Tube Host, so the actual host BBC sends all its VDU command...

On the other hand, Econet involves both 8 and 32 bit computers. So IMHO a networking subforum is only suitable for platfo...

The Atom video is 60Hz. Does that cause the difference in speed? When accessing the screen with normal writing or drawing the Atom waits for the video fly-back. Can you also make the speed selection in "software"? Then we don't need a hardware switch and we don't need to drill a hole in our Elk. Only writing to a register will be enough for speed switching [-o<

And isn't there enough RAM to add a few banks of sideways RAM?

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

I also spotted a bug in the timeout code (I was seeing very long timeouts - minutes!). You are using &FDFE (page 00) to store the timeout value. But by the time the timeout is used, this location might have been overwritten with serial data. Well, that is not a bug; that was (carefully) chosen this...

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

Alternatively, if the code run as a result of the interrupts is not important, could you cheat by writing a new interrupt routine. It would just write to the relevant ULA register to clear all the (potential) causes of an interrupt, then return. I had the same idea but just a little bit different a...

I wonder if there is a way to parse the response without relying on timeouts like this? I don't think it is possible. The ESP8266 send a lot of different responses, like "OK", "ERROR" but also messages like "GOT IP", "CLOSED" and "DISCONNECT". To analyse the incoming datastream is hard to do with s...

The UART does not generate interrupts at the moment. There is a selection for NMI or IRQ on the board and at the moment both jumpers are not installed.

Re: Acorn Electron online? Any such hardware.

I think I know what is going wrong.... Let me explain a bit how the processing of the received data works. The Electron sends a GET command to the server and the server responds with a lot of data. This data is chopped in chunks of max 1420 bytes (ethernet frame length). The WGET commands stores the...
