Re: ABUG Cambridge 28th - 30th June 2019 BOOKING THREAD - ONE PLACE LEFT

Now a full table has become available, I'm trying to convince the wife that it would be a good weekend away. I have to act fast though before the remaining space is taken. I have amassed some recent bits (in another post) and it would be good to bring the RISCIX backup to see if anyone can do anythi...

Re: Pile of bits I went through today

wonder what's on the teletext discs... might be telesoftware downloads... :D I'll take a look... (checks discs for mould)... Most likely to be telesoftware. First few discs wouldn't read, but some of the later ones have. TELETEXT-009 for example has files labelled: ASSEM, EX20, EFFECTS, FLASH, G/RE...

Re: Pile of bits I went through today

On that note, what do people suggest removing surface mould from affected discs? I'm assuming it's a gentle wipe with some IPA but unfortunately I don't have any. I remembered I had an original new in packaging 3.5" floppy drive cleaner disk complete with cleaning fluid which I understand to be IPA...

Re: Pile of bits I went through today

The RISCiX floppies may well be interesting, particularly the 21 disk backup! I wouldn't know the first thing about what system it was from, nor how to extract the backup, so best I can do here is ask in the forum who would know and can they do anything with it? Today I braved the big cupbo...

Pile of bits I went through today

Today I had the pleasure of looking through a box of bits that I picked up a couple of days ago from someone up in Liverpool. Looks like whoever owned the items had worked in or around schools, or had picked up the items from a school when the school moved on to other systems. Included I have the fo...

Re: Today I received.....

Not strictly today but three days ago, a box of bits from a chap selling them on Facebook. Mostly software, floppies, ROM cartridges, books, tapes and a few chips, along with a bunch of ARM stuff. I luckily was travelling halfway up the country from Hampshire to just outside of Leeds anyway, so the ...

Can't wait to see more videos of the various screen modes, dithering, etc. versions, as I don't have the necessary hardware to give it a play until I save some £££s for the necessary upgrades (namely PiTube and nULA).

Those words are interesting. I remember back in the day I couldn't even get Speech! to say bed. I tried all sorts of combinations, such as behd, but nothing sounded quite right.

I might have to try again after studying your list further.

Re: Drawing a circle in BBC BASIC

It also doesn't let you do XOR plotting, but that's a bit fiddlier. Yes, that's a very good point. It can easily be forgotten that in order for XOR plotting to work correctly (specified either with GCOL 3 or 4, or by using an 'inverting' PLOT code) every pixel must be plotted just once . Quite rece...

Re: Drawing a circle in BBC BASIC

Provides both filled and unfilled circles in BASIC using only INTEGERS, ADDITION and SUBTRACTION. I'm sure it would be trivial to convert into machine code if speed was vitally important. It could be sped up a bit as it plots each physical horizontal line twice, due to using logical pixels instead ...

Those weird blobs at the bottom right occur if the palette wraps around. It then has to get from 15 to 0 in a small number of pixels. The latest version is using all 15 colours so it could work nicely with nULA with a gradient.

I did contemplate this, but I wasn't sure it was short enough. It would probably take 10 minutes for an average typist to enter into the Beeb.

I've also been modifying it further. I will post an update later.

Plasma effect in BASIC

Here's a smallish program I've written that fills the MODE 2 screen with a plasma effect. It's slow, it doesn't colour cycle (but I don't see why not) and it will most likely need to be tweaked for many improvements and enhancements, but I present it as-is for your delight. Here's the plasma in acti...
